Vacancy #9

Jan 10, 2008 19:25

car crash in the middle of the night
no witnesses but the starlight
so turn up the music, dim the lights
and drive by

fire dancing for the sky
shattered windows bleeding left and right
but no one hears the silent cry
turn a blind eye, turn a blind eye

step on the pedal and drive
drive down the 45
race into the night
leave it all behind on the 45

car crash wreckage now far behind
this car has run for miles
piercing screams still ring clear
leave it all behind

lightning sizzles crisp and bright
the heavens weep when angels die
slow down, arm the wipers
keep to the side, turn up the lights

take another swig and drive
drive down the 45
the skies conspire to drown you
leave it all behind

storm unrelenting
hail descending
engine panting
see the sign on the side
stop for the night

empty pockets so charge it
gnarled fingers hand you keys
it's that easy

the wall says vacancy #9
the wall says vacancy #9
now that vacancy is mine
and that's just fine

perfect place for a vagrant
lie down unload all your troubles
hostess will be by to greet you on the hour
so take a shower and scrub the pain away

sleeping in a bed of sins
put a quarter in the slot for another cheap thrill
close the blinds and try to say goodnight
but you can't escape the 45

the walls are paper thin
sheets crawl like snake skin
wailing trucks blare their sound in
assaulting your ears

from beneath the bed quakes
vibrations from the highway
violently the mind races
reminded of the fire

can't shed our hearts
can't shed our hearts
can't shed our hearts

you denied her tonight three times
you denied her tonight three times
you denied her tonight three times

can't shed our hearts
they fall apart
and we must start to make amends
and mend the damage that has been
and now begins the time
that we look back and see the folly of our ways
sad mistakes of yesterdays will follow us to our graves
unless we pay now

so what do we say now?
