Yes, they have, your Honor. Guilty!
So, I had my first trial on Friday! After weeks of prepping trials and having them plead, finally one went. It was a Driving While Suspended Charge, and guess what! You don't want to? Fine - I'll just tell you.... We got a guilty verdict!
I felt pretty good about it, overall. There were a few pieces of evidence I wanted to get in - a statement, a prior conviction - that I forgot about, but other then that it was good. But, the jury was deliberating for almost 45 minutes! That was the hardest part, honestly - sitting in the hallway, waiting to hear that the jury was back with a verdict. I was too nervous to go back down to the office, and I didn't think that they would be out as long as they were. It was exhilerating to hear the judge say "Guilty." Not that I like to watch people be found guilty of crimes without good reason, mind you... But I think it was the appropriate verdict in this case.
So, on to the next one... I have one scheduled for this next Friday, but I'm also supposed to be running with my team for the Ranier to Pacific Relay. Hopefully one of my fellow clerks will take the case on for me. Otherwise, I'll make them run for me. Who plans a two-day race for a Friday and a Saturday instead of a Saturday and a Sunday? HONESTLY?! *sigh* it'll all work out...
Okay, now to watch a movie... more later?!
