**You know the drill. Spoilers for the Young Justice episode "Failsafe". Apparently they have opted to go the Smallville route with one-word episode titles.**
The Good:
-Heh, I like the team's snow camo gear. They've got costume variants for every occasion, don't they?
-I like the plot in general, the whole "mysterious alien race tries to kill everything". We don't see them, we don't know who they are or what they want, we never know their names... it's all very frightening and fascinating until...
-...we find out it was essentially a Kobayashi Maru exercise gone horribly wrong, thanks to the fact that Miss Martian is apparently Jean Grey, i.e. she has insanely powerful telepathic abilities that the League never suspected she had. It's certainly an interesting plot twist; I'm curious to see where they go with it. I'm guessing it's going to be a "only SHE can save the world" scenario... and she better not die doing it, darnit. Let's not make her TOO much like Jean here. :(
-D... Did they just show Jason Bard and explain why he's got a cane? Also, hi Iris!
The Meh:
-Wally's kind of an anti-alien bigot here, which is odd, given his former crush on Miss Martian. You'd think in a world inhabited by so many benevolent aliens, there would be some kind of political correctness standards concerning them. In all fairness, it's hard to tell how earnest Wally was being with his statements (the first time he was kind of joking, the second he was in shock over Artemis's "death"), but still, it sort of bugged me and I hope they bring it up again later.
-Wally appropriating M'gann's catchphrase ("Hello, Wally!") once is funny. If everybody starts doing this, I'll have to quit this show just on general principle.
The Ugly:
-Robin has to blow up a locked doorway in order to get through it. While he has Kid Flash with him. Don't the Flashes have the ability to vibrate through walls?
-Nobody seemed particularly upset about all of their mentors dying horrible deaths at the hands of the aliens. Sure, they freaked out over Artemis, and Miss Martian was crying over her uncle but... that's it. You'd think Robin and Kid Flash, at the very least, would be upset over Batman and Flash biting the dust. And then nobody cared about Aqualad and Superboy all that much either. Just Artemis. That was weird.
-This doesn't have anything to do with the episode itself, but when I was watching it on youtube, everything was backward. Which was fine, except when text appeared and then I'd have to pause it in order to translate the Zatanna-speak on the screen.
Overall:
This. Show. Is. Fantastic. Go watch it. Right now. Not the early episodes, those were mediocre at best, but NOW we're getting somewhere. Aside from the team's apathy concerning their mentors'/relatives' deaths, I really can't find anything serious to complain about here. Rock solid all around.
