(Mini) Review: "Homefront"

**Spoilers here!**

The Good:

-More cameos!  Say hi to Bette Kane and Barbara Gordon, folks!

-Robin, OMG. XDDDD Even his stupid obsession with prefixes is starting to grow on me.

-As much as I hate to say it... Artemis.  She's actually become less annoying and more interesting, for reasons which I regrettably don't have the time to list here.  But I just want to mention the bit at Gotham Academy at the beginning, where Artemis is pulling down on her skirt, obviously thinking it's too short.  Genre savvy!  It'd be more effective if her costume didn't bare her stomach, but I'll take what I can get.

The Meh:

-They still haven't given us any more info on the Light, but they didn't rub that in our faces this time either.

-We got Artemis backstory, which would be good except I'm not sure how I feel about it.  They say that Cheshire is Artemis's older sister, which would make Cheshire's real name... Jade Crock? O_o

-It would seem that the group traitor has been revealed as Red Tornado instead of Artemis.  Given RT's backstory in the comics, I'm not entirely surprised, but I have to say, I feel a bit cheated.  Red Tornado is NOT a member of the team.  He's just there to keep an eye on them, effectively he's their babysitter.  He hands out the cases, but he doesn't help solve them.  So if it turns out RT is the spy, I'm going to be disappointed.

The Ugly:

-More helpless women, yay!  I was willing to overlook this originally, because a) Miss Martian is unconscious the whole time, but she's being kept in a fire cage, and we all know how martians deal with fire, and b) Artemis kicked major booty.  HOWEVER, Kaldur is trapped in the same cage as Miss Martian, and we all know how Atlanteans deal with heat.  But unlike Miss Martian, who never wakes up the whole episode, Kaldur is conscious and communicative at least part of the time.  Also, Superboy is constantly yelling about his concern for M'gann, but is ANYONE worried for Kaldur?  Nope.  Plus, there's a brief and unnecessary scene where Robin saves Artemis.  So, despite Artemis's bada$$ery, the girls are still viewed as the weak links on the team.  I am not amused.

Overall: This was... actually... GOOD?!  It was exciting, interesting, and ended on a cliffhanger that leaves me breathlessly awaiting next week's installment.  AND it portrayed Artemis as more than an annoying "tough girl"!!  And hey, Robin played a big role in this episode, which is always a bonus in my book.  Could this show finally be coming into its own?!  I'm trying not to get to excited, but... I think it has.
