To the Bookstore!

***Very mild comic spoilers, but nothing vital.***

The bookstore was mean to me yesterday.  Normally there's only one or two things that I want, so it's easy to choose what to buy.  But yesterday there was a ton of cool-looking comics I really, really wanted!!! *grumps*

Anyway.  I decided on Superman #700, mostly because of the story where Superman does Dick's homework for him. XD  It basically consisted of three short stories and a bunch of ads/previews for future comics, none of which I have any intention of buying.  Nice try, DC.

The other thing I bought was a book called DC Universe: Origins, which is filled with two-page stories about the origins of various heroes and villains.  It was pretty fun, though I have to question their judgment on some of the characters they included (e.g. the new Starman over the Flash?  Who is a million times more popular and is actually ON THE COVER?  I think they just included Starman to plug Cry for Justice, actually...)

Also, the Nightwing story worried me.  It was drawn by the incredibly awesome George Perez, which made me happy.  But the text in the last panel reads as follows: "Grave celestial forces beyond our ken have informed him [Nightwing] that his survival in the multiverse's recent crisis was neither expected nor foretold... and that his ultimate fate is yet to be determined."

...

WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!?

For those who don't know, Dick was actually supposed to die during one of the recent crises. (Final Crisis?  Identity Crisis?  Infinite Crisis?  Gah, who knows, I can't keep track.)  Why?  Well, because Dan Didio, DC's current editor-in-chief, doesn't like him, that's why.  Needless to say, fan reaction was somewhat poor (to put it mildly), so Didio had no choice but to scrap that plan and let Dick live.

Now, however, people are trying to figure out what will happen to Dick when Bruce Wayne returns.  Dick has been Batman ever since Bruce's disappearance, so... will he go back to being Nightwing?  Will there be two Batmen guarding Gotham from now on?  Or will Didio finally get his wish?

This book better be lying to me.  Because I don't care how pretty Perez draws Dick, I don't want Dick dead.  Though knowing comics, he'll be back within the week... but still!!  It's bad enough Garth is dead and Roy is... ahem, well, let's not go there... I do NOT need Dick killed off on top of everything else.

On an unrelated note, EWW WHY IS THERE A DEAD SQUIRREL ON MY PORCH GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!! (I'd make a great and courageous superhero, no?)

bookstore, what the?!, dick grayson, comics
