I woke up incredibly early this morning and could not fall back to sleep. So, I just flipped through channels trying to find something to semi-watch while I was trying to catch another hour or so. I stopped on CNN because I had an itch or something and got distracted. Anwyay, Dr. Sandja Gupta was doing a story about cancer. I got so angry!! He was talking about this little girl who had Ewing's Sarcoma, which is rare as are all sarcoma's. This little girl was in remission because a drug called ImmTher. The drug is still available, for a only for a short time. When the supply that already exists is gone, which about enough to three 60 kids, the manufacturer will make no more. This drug was still in clinical trials and the manufacturer told one of the doctors conducting the trials that their marketing people said "they would never recoop the costs of research and trials, so they will discontinue this drug." Basically the drug won't make any money, because sarcoma's are rare enough that there is no possible way for the drug company to make a profit. I'm sorry, but fuck you!!! I understand that businesses are out for a profit, but do not tell me that a drug company is not making enough profit off of all of it's other drugs that it can't make this drug to save lives. I have an idea, how about stop advertising all of these drugs on television? That might save you a dollar or two. I am sick to death of drug commercials. They are drugs people, if you need them, your doctor will tell you, you don't need a commercial to do it. I just cannot believe that a board of directors would say money is worth more than lives, especially children... actually the sad thing is I can believe it, I just don't understand it.
