Concord Players is doing "The Importance of Being Ernest" as their first show this year, with performances in November. I auditioned last week, and to my surprise, I got cast as Lady Braknell. Most excellent! Now I've got to polish up a British accent and start channeling my inner Sherman Tank. :-D Oscar Wild's comedy of manners is really funny

Lady Bracknell? Hm. I don't think I have ever but once seen her played by a woman, and that was in a completely gender-switched production...

Great show - pure comic genius. The only way to screw that show up is to not just say the lines. :-)

Yeah, I know, but she was written as a woman, after all! Not fair of the men to take meaty parts away from us women, who're part-deprived anyway! Humph.

I am not sure that is true. I read somewhere, although I cannot verify where or that it is true, that Wilde himself played that role.

[Alexx googles for a bit...] On the original opening night, the role of Lady Bracknell was played by Miss Rose Leclerq. I wouldn't put it past Oscar to play the role in a private drawing room 'performance', but I doubt he did it on stage.
