Second Set of Interview Game

Apr 04, 2005 12:44

Here's my answers to antoniseb's interview game questions. I'll be asking the other folks who requested interviews their questions as soon as I can pull my nose out of my taxes and finances. In the meantime, just know I haven't forgotten you.

antoniseb asked me:
1. What is the most important characteristic of a lover for you (in the unlikely event that it has to do with physical love, go to the next most importnat)?

2. You have fingers like a musician, but I don't recall ever seeing you play an instrument. Have you played something?

3. What do you do to stay so slender? Do you spend a lot of time at the gym?

4. What was the most recent thing Will has done that made you wonder where he learned it?

5. Do you think anti-depressants have gotten more effective recently?

1. What is the most important characteristic of a lover for you (in the unlikely event that it has to do with physical love, go to the next most important)?
The most important characteristic of a lover for me is that he be capable of love. (No, I'm not talking about sex.) I'm coming to believe love is the desire and capability of knowing the beloved with deep intimacy; their good attributes, flaws, and other characteristics, and to still feel and express that understanding, appreciation and approval of the beloved to the beloved and all the world. In other words, an emotionally supportive person who knows me completely, appreciates me anyway, and tells me about it. That kind of love lasts, and lets me relax about weathering problems, or hearing constructive criticism, or growing and changing. (I give the same back to my lovers.)

2. You have fingers like a musician, but I don't recall ever seeing you play an instrument. Have you played something?
I wish. Maybe you're mistaking artist's fingers for musician's fingers. I took guitar lessons for a month or two, and piano lessons for a year or two, but never got good enough to play anything. I do, however, sculpt, paint, draw, and make art.

3. What do you do to stay so slender? Do you spend a lot of time at the gym?
I was born lucky; I've got a high metabolism. I didn't have to do anything to stay thin, and I could eat whatever I wanted for most of my life. I got all the exercise I needed from dancing and fencing. In the years since I had Will, though, my luck has run out. Now, food affects my body, I get pudgy, and I want to eat more, too. I'm working out at a gym about 3 times a week, and harder yet, I'm trying to eat less.

4. What was the most recent thing Will has done that made you wonder where he learned it?
In his LJ he described how taking a certain skill in a computer game would increase your speed in making equipment, and then compared that to how Ely Whitney developed standardized parts for rifles in order to keep enough functioning rifles in service to successfully fight the Revolutionary War. I didn't know Ely Whitney did more than invent the cotton gin, and I didn't know Will could generalize and draw parallels across subjects like that, either.

5. Do you think anti-depressants have gotten more effective recently?
I don't know about anti-depressant drugs. I've only used Prozac for less than a year when Bob left me. I do believe cognitive therapy has made treatment of depression more effective recently, though, with or without drugs.
