I've given up saying intelligent things about books. But "I loved this because reason" I figure might signal "Try this!" to those who share the same sort of reasons.

I know I get lots of recs this way, in my net cruising.

Sherwood, seriously, while your remarks may not be up to your own standards, I don't think you could help saying intelligent things about books; it would be a positive effort for you not to at this point.

Well, I'm glad they come off okay, or that's just you being really kind. I pretty much always feel like I'm scrabbling for the keelson, so to speak.

They come off okay, at the least.

Which is not to say that simple, "I liked this for that reason" is not also a very useful observation to people looking for books to read.

Yeah--a line like, "I loved X because it terrified the crap out of me and I couldn't sleep" is a surefire signal that that book is NOT for me.

But someone else says, "Oh, wow, Y cracked me up--it was just like reading Wodehouse, only lesbians!" and I'd buy that pretty much sight unseen.
