I have to admit that Japanese actors seem to have an edge over Korean and Taiwan actors when it comes to acting skills. Having watched "Meteor Garden" (Taiwan version of HYD) and "Hana Yori Dango", I think the Japanese actors performed much better, especially the lead male.

Matsumoto Jun (last name, first name) nailed the part of Domyoji Tsukasa, a spoilt, arrogant simple-minded idiot whose redeeming qualities are his unwavering loyalty and fervent love for the girl of his dreams.

Anyway, back to the movie, I was a very happy bunny as there were quite a number of scenes with a shirtless Matsumoto romping about in the ocean. Mmm. :)

I can imagine the horde of Arashi and MatsuJun fangirls screaming their heads off when he first appeared shirtless and wet. Hee.

However, the opening scene had me screaming "Why is he wearing that???" as the camera zoomed in to show Matsumoto wearing a fugly pair of red and black-striped pants. Later on in the movie, he is wearing a hideous gold leopard-print (?) blouse with frills [it ain't manly enough to be a shirt]and a glossy black pvc jacket. WHY???

Still, can't compare to Korean TV drama fashion though. Frilly pink shirts, jacket with a huge furry muff, or my main peeve from Goong aka "Princess Hours": a gorgeous shirt with elegant jacket and then... half-pants!!! I still can't get over the travesty.

Looking forward to more Japanese and Korean dramas. I'm currently watching bits and pieces of a Taiwan drama called "Hot Shot" which is a basketball drama that is hilariously over-the-top.
