Yo -- I'm writing a paper on social networking on LJ and I was wondering if any of you had any stories you wouldn't mind me sharing in my paper
( Read more... )
Ok here we go: 1. Do you feel like a leader here? If so, are you also a leader in real life? I'm not sure I've even thought about it. But, I don't post that much in groups as much as my personal journal, and comments on my friends.
2. Do you get things going (stir up drama, give people ideas, give advice, network)? I comment on my friends journals but as in everywhere in my life I try to keep drama at minimum.
3. What do you use LJ for? Keeping up with friends. I did for a while, join a support group and it was nice.
4. Have you made any close friends on LJ? I've made friends.... Close, I don't think.
5. Have you met a lover/significant other on LJ? Nope.
6. Do you have a different persona here than in RL? If so, how is it different?
(thought of more as I've gotten into the paper -- talking about the strength of social ties more...) Nope, I am who I am.
7. Have you ever helped someone find a job or had someone help you find a job from the LJ community? Nope.
8. Have you ever helped someone move / had someone help you move? Nope.
9. Been introduced to a mutual virtual friend / introduced someone to a virtual friend? Yes, especially when I was on the support group.
10. Given / been given a ride to/from the airport by a LJ friend? Nope, but there are people here if asked I would go get. They just haven't been to charlotte.
11. What kinds of information do you usually share in LJ? Pretty personal, to casual. I flock almost all my posts.
12. Do you feel that the information you share benefits others? I'd like to think so. Doesn't everyone, want to think what they say to a friend is important?
13. How do you feel about the word "friend" being used at a verb in the LJ community (when adding someone to your network)? The word has emotional connotations even though you may not be actual friends when they are added. Do you feel that your "friends" on LJ are friends? Yes, almost everyone I have friended has a tie. I don't friend people that I don't want to know about my personal life.
By the way, I think that you may either be modest or not realize that some probably do see you as a leader. You've done a lot to organize and get word out about the Jalsah (and other events).
