Jimmy got his first haircut today! He was sooooo good, he hardly fussed at all. He even let them use the clippers! Here's the brave fella:
Just in time for our portraits this weekend!
As far as sleep goes, night-weaning has not stopped the night-waking. Putting him in his own room has not stopped the night-waking. None of the "no-cry" solutions have helped. I think it's crying time. *sigh* I had really hoped not to ever do this, but he is just not sleeping through the night. He has, however, gotten better at explaining what he wants - he wants mom or dad to lie down with him in his bed, wrap their arms around him, and sing him back to sleep. EVERY TIME HE WAKES UP. Ugh.
Tonight we are going to get a little bit harsher. I am going to try the "silent return" technique. Every time he gets out of bed, just silently, with no eye contact or interaction, return him gently to bed. Over and over again. Until they give up and go to sleep on their own. I hope this works. I'm still okay with nursing him to sleep the first time - I like that interaction, it just seems very sweet to me. But more than once a night is NOT cool. I also thing we're going to have to institute a 1-hour nap rule as well. As in, Jimmy stays in his room (I got a baby-proof door lock thingy for his room) for at least an hour during nap time. I'm thinking about seeing if he can climb out of his crib as well, and possibly pulling that back out, because that might actually be easier. But, although he does fit in it better than I thought, I suspect he can climb out quite easily, as he is now climbing on the table and trying to swing from the light fixture. My neighbor's kid had a broken ankle from falling out of the crib, and another friend's kid broke his collarbone, so I'm not so sure I like the whole crib theory.
Not getting enough sleep is really getting to me. I've been kind of cranky and fairly depressed, and I have to keep reminding myself that having a kid that won't sleep on his own will do that to you!
Oh, but he has done some super-cute things lately!!! I was returning a lawn mower a friend let us borrow, and it was very heavy and hard to fit in the car. I kept trying to lift it different ways. So Jimmy, he comes right over to help! He goes to one corner, and lifts just as hard as he can, groaning and straining! Then he goes to another corner and tries that one! It was so cute! And just now he went digging in my pocket for my iphone. Not entirely cute, but very creative. And last night he was saying "baby baby baby" and Daddy said, "where's the baby, Jimmy?" and he bounced up and down and laughed, and I swear he was pointing to himself! It was very cute. "Baby" is the word of the week, second only to "GO!!!!", said very forcefully and with a certain growl of excitement to it!
Well, gotta go let this wild monkey child outdoors so he can climb a tree or something. Then we're going to the farmer's market!
