stomach flu, shoes, gardening

A stomach flu has been making the rounds of our house, ruining plans and making us all miserable. Ugh. I'm finally starting to feel better, but I still had to reschedule the dentist appointment for today. Which also meant calling the sitter. *sigh* One of these days all the dental work from the past two or three years will finally get done!

Jimmy has had a few firsts. Most notably, he got his first pair of shoes! Just like daddy's, take a look:

We also converted his crib to a toddler bed, and he likes it a lot better. I've actually gotten him to lay down and pretend to sleep in it. No actual sleep yet, but I'm just not ready to give up nursing to sleep. Amy said her child nursed to sleep until 15 months, so I'm sort of going by that as a time frame. A bunch of my friends nursed until 17 months, and then did the night weaning. I'm still trying to get Jimmy to take cow's milk, or even soy milk. I asked the doc when we took Jimmy in for the stomach flu, and he said to mix the cow's milk with breast milk, so I'm gonna have to pull the pump out of the basement again! Anyways, here's a pic of the converted crib. At least he doesn't scream when I put him in it anymore!

He's also figured out how to climb a ladder, thanks to the birthday gift from Nana and Pop-pop. They got him a "woodland climber" with a slide. Here's a pic:

I guess that doesn't show the ladder - I'll have to take some more pictures! He's gotten really good at climbing up the ladder!

He's also had a huge explosion in his sign language, and using it - he does "eat", "water", "more", "all done", "clean up" and really he just uses "eat" all the time! Hungry boy, right up until he got sick! He also wants to drink what Tom and I are drinking, which is not too cool, considering it's usually soda. So I think now he's also learning the sign for "no". He's continuing to try and copy what I say verbally as well. Yesterday his favorite word was "go". He said it about 15 times, but didn't say it again today. Not sure if we should add that to his list of words or not! What's really cute is if we just talk about eating, he'll sign it. Like he's joining in the conversation!

Oh, and he's started an annoying thing. He knows he's not supposed to hit the TV, so he shake his head no, and then goes and hits the TV! Argh! Speaking of TV, we let him watch TV while he was sick, because he (and I) were really just too listless to do anything else. Turns out his favorite show is "The Fresh Beat Band", because it's all singing and dancing. Sesame Street was still a bit old for him. He also likes anything with cars in it, so we let him watch Top Gear. He waves to all the cars on the TV. It's so cute. At one point I let him hold the remote, and showed him which buttons to push, and he was just in heaven. Cars go. Pause! Cars stop! TV off! TV on! At least something made him happy while he was sick.

As for me, my garden plan is well on it's way. I ordered all my seeds this weekend, mostly from seedsavers.org. And I've also mail-ordered all the plants I could, it's way cheaper that way. I'll have a delicious edible landscape! And a little bit for the birds (and squirrels) too. Does anyone need asparagus? The smallest lot I could buy was 25, and I don't have room for 25 plants!!! I just can't wait for spring! We've had a couple of warm days now, with some snow melt. I can see the wood from my raised beds now - just a few more weeks and hopefully the snow will be all gone!
