Dragons Have Slightly Less Hoard

So, while I was off doing a job with my father, someone thought it would be fun to break into my apartment.

I found two doors unlocked: the front door and the door to my patio (both were locked prior to me leaving). The light on my room was left on and the door to my room was wide open when I got back. The drawer in my bathroom had been pulled out like someone had rummaged through it. My lockbox, containing some minor valuables and personal documents, was on my bed, and unlocked.

A quick inventory and I found these items to be missing:
* Most of my DVD collection except for Batman Begins and What Dreams May Come, and the first three seasons of House, M.D.
* A small pile of CDs I had on my desk that I was going to rip onto my entertainment center, mostly Nine Inch Nails, and a smattering of Bauhaus.
* My rather small collection of console games, including Lost Odyssey, Dead Space, Gradius III & IV, and Gradius V. Oddly enough, the collector's edition of Fallout 3 evaded theft. The memory card I had for each respective system, however, did not.
* The top part of my lockbox, which had some semi-valuable coins and jewels, a few trinkets, a bunch of club cards for various grocery stores, and a few checkbooks.
* An AirLink101 AR430W router I'd hacked to put DD-WRT on, but not the AC adaptor to power it.
* My (rather beaten and worn) roller bag that I use as an overnight bag (nothing was in it when I left).

What makes it so odd is that it has the markings of a personal attack, as it seems that only my room was targeted. Keet's door had not had its locked picked, and it doesn't seem like anything in his little alcove was taken, nor was anything downstairs or in the garage touched. And yet, if it really were personal, I can think of several other things they could have taken or damaged that would have hit a bit closer to home, like my original art, my con badges, my gaming computer and entertainment center, my keyboard, my various bits of dragon paraphernalia. The loss of my CDs and DVDs and games annoy me, but it's not that big of a deal. Not too happy about my coins and my shinies being stolen, but it's really nothing I can just start collecting anew, none of my coins or jewels were all that valuable. I can call my credit union tomorrow and have them put a freeze on my account and have my account number changed.

So, call me upset regardless (it's my stuff, after all), but fairly puzzled as far as motive goes. Maybe some dork on the Internet I pissed off somehow got my personal information and wanted to try and get at me. Maybe some dude noticed that the usually lit townhouse was fairly dark and quiet, and went for the path of least resistance, since my room does not have a lock, and most of the stuff grabbed was light and could easily be fobbed off for a quick buck. But why not grab more valuable things if they were going to throw it all in the roller bag? Nothing about this makes any damn sense.

Oh well, nothing else to be done. I filed a report, the police came and tried to get some prints, but couldn't get anything from the items that were touched. The nice officer left me his card and the case number and talked with the neighbors to see if they heard anything. I'll notify management tomorrow and have them change the locks, and will install a lock on my own bedroom doors.

Now excuse me while I get smashed.
