Okay, I must be crazy.
Even though I am such a wuss about water and cold (I can't even bear to wash my face with cold water), Brad and Sarah have convinced me to join the Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. This means that I will be jumping into Lake Monona on Feb. 18.
Why I am I doing this? A few reasons. Aside from it being a good cause, part if it is BECAUSE I am such a wuss; the challenge makes it seem kind of exciting. It's SO wild, SO stupid and crazy sounding that it seems like it will be a fun experience to talk about after my lips turn pink again.
Also, I have to admit, the solidarity/peer pressure (call it what you will) played a big part. A few other first years (and Aimee) are doing it too and came up with the idea to call our team the Psycrophiles (a term for bacteria that grow in extremely cold conditions; it means 'cold loving') and for us to all wear lab coats and goggles. This will actually be the first time I wear Bill's lab coat, hehe. A fitting way to christen it, I think. And then Brad made the coolest picture on our team website - a little bacterium with a hat and mittens on its flagellum. How could I resist that?
Anyway: here's my pledge page -
Give me money! I promise I will post pictures of me looking like a half frozen waterlogged rat after it's all over.
(The reason I chose the picture I did is because it became a general theme - Brad and Matt posted their boot pictures. Check out the cute picture on our team page though! Oh, and Sarah and Aimee: I do have pictures of you guys with boots too if you want to post them).
Wish me luck.
