Thanks for all your help :)
After reading various reviews of computers, processors and other components online, and all your words, and doings lots and lots of research, right now I am leaning towards this. Please tell me if you think I'm making a horrible mistake.
Model: Compaq V2000Z
Processor: Sempron 3000+ 1.8 GHz/128 KB L2 Cache
OS: Windows XP Pro
RAM: 512 MB
Hard Drive: 40 GB
Optical: CD Burner/DVD Combo
Internet: 54g 802.11 b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster, and ethernet port
Battery: 6 Cell Lithium Ion, about 1.5 hrs
3 USB ports and all sorts of other ports I have never had to use
Price: 678.98 with free shipping, HP Deskjet 3747 Color Inkjet Printer and screen upgrade. I'm glad about the printer, because my printer is starting to fall apart, and always prints really streakily. Maybe this printer will suck too, who knows...but it's free ;)
Most of the reviews I've read have been favorable, especially by people who are using it for what I will be doing. Some have complained about the processor, but I don't think I need a 64 bit Turion, heh. The main complaint for the computer and processor is its low battery life, and for that the Intel was definitely preferred (from all that I've read) but I've never actually used my laptop on its battery (because it never worked)...so it's not something I really care about. They do have a 12 cell for an extra 40.00, but it's kind of bulky.
The way I see it, there isn't much point in agonizing over it, because I would probably not be able to tell much difference anyway. But I won't order it for a few days yet...so if any of you have any horror stories about the company or model or processor or whatever...now is the time.
Thanks so much...
