do you think It's important that artists speak or write about their work?

Speaking about your art or other mental problems is always important. The question is, “important to whom”?

I find artists’ texts incredibly similar to a text a patient says on the couch at his shrink and as a viewer that doesn’t get paid to hear or read this text I think in most cases it is not relevant.
Artists should analyze their work it is highly important for their own progress.
A text written by an artist is relevant only when it’s an unseparated part of his work and not about his work.
Marcel Dushamp is a good example of an artist whose visual and verbal work is a part of the same wide research.

-describe any work experience which you feel relates to your aetistic goals.

During the past year I’ve worked as a cashier in a small international call-booth center in one of Tel Aviv’s poorest areas.
Most of our costumers are illegal immigrants from different parts of the world.
In the last few years Israeli police deported a very big part of this population what resulted in much more leisure for me. I used this time to create my last body of work - the miniatures - which I’m due to exhibit twice during this upcoming year in GFK gallery, Berlin, and XL gallery, Moscow.
My art creating process is an undivided part of my daily life circulation. I use any material that’s around me at the “moment”. I can be influenced by my distance from the toilets, my sex life, the cigarettes I smoke or just from being bored.
Not that I’m planning to work in these lousy jobs all my life. My point is that I’m not “living art”, art is just a part of my daily discharge. That’s sort of how I plan to continue although planning is not really relevant to this procedure.

Yes I know I’ve just said that artists shouldn’t write about their work.

-what are your goals after graduation from the cooper union?

I don’t see Cooper Union or any other academic program as a waiting point.
I’ve already started to realize my goals, here are some of my plans to the upcoming year:

-         may 2005- solo exhibition in GFK gallery, Berlin together with Zoya Cherkassky
-         January 2006(charismas vacation) - solo exhibition in XL gallery, Moscow
-         May 2006 - solo exhibition in Rosenfeld gallery, Tel Aviv, home gallery of Zoya C., Roee Rosen, Michael Rapoport...
-         Some time this year I’m also helping to organize a Russian artist exhibition in Rosenfeld gallery
If I’ll survive this year I’m planning to stay in NY, work, exhibit, make music, maybe I’ll continue for second degree.

explain specifically, what other proffessions outside of the visual arts have you considered.

Besides the visual arts my second profession is music. I’m a professional bass player for quite some time. I play, compose and produce in different bands and projects.
I hope to realize a combination of those two professions in the future.

what books, works of art, and/or persons have inspired your interest in the study of art and why?

Before I started my study at the Beit Berl College my knowledge in contemporary art was very narrow. Artists like Maurizio Cattelan, Paul Mccarthy, Pipilotti Rist and Martin Kippenberger opened a totally new world for me.
I owe a big part of my progress to my most influencing teacher Roee Rosen.

explain any trivialities in which you engage.

Except the drumming lessons I take I don’t have much time for trivialities.
I’m working, studying, preparing for my exhibition, making music and in my free time I drink vodka.

describe an event or idea that has been very influential in your life.

The first time I’ve sold a painting, that was fun!

considering the obvious limitations of this questionnaire as a one -way interview, provide us whith an answer to an important question we haven't asked?

Are you single?
- Yes actually my girlfriend just left me. Why are you interested?

if you are applaying as a transfer student, state the circumstances for your decision.

Although I study in Beit Berl only for two years this year I’m finishing and exhibiting with the graduators.
I don’t want to finish my degree in favorite of my artist carrier, I don’t need it. I’m going to study because I really want to study in an interesting, challenging and serious environment, which is first of all NY and second Cooper Union.
I’m also very interested in graphic design and other computer arts which I know Cooper is very serious about.
