I mentioned I needed a race or event for which to train.
I think
I found it. A 10K race from AT&T Park to Candlestick, finishing at the 50-yard line in the stadium. Should be awesome. If all goes well, I'd like to finish around 45 minutes. This goal subject to some modification in the coming months.
I tracked back a
training plan to today's date, and I should be able to pull this off without rushing things. Printed up a calendar with daily workouts, though I'll allow myself to use equivalents for meeting the base mileage (10-12 miles on the bike instead of a 3 mile run, for instance). This week concludes with 3 miles tomorrow (actually cycling downtown, 6 miles one-way) and 3 miles on Saturday.
I used
this Excel template for my calendar - looks all spiffy, and I didn't have to make it.
I realized when I walked to the polling place on Tuesday that I could totally do workouts before work, time-wise. I might need more clothes (or a treadmill) in order to do it comfortably through the winter, though.
