I don't remember putting Journey on my workout mix, but I guess it works just fine.

On my way back from the gym today I saw a police officer scolding a guy outside his apartment building for having five cars parked on the block. It's not illegal, to my knowledge, though I'll agree it's obnoxious. If I have one problem personally with the NYPD officers I've encountered, it's that they're rather free in offering advice that has nothing to do with the law. There was the time a man called them in to our store because he had lost his store credit and we didn't have it in our "system"; if the police want to buy us some software to keep track of store credits, they're welcome to do so, but until then telling us we "really should keep better track of those" is fairly worthless. There was also the time that Nate was bothered while catsitting for us, and told that we shouldn't be living in this neighborhood because "there are like twenty shootings a week here." (Funny how that doesn't show up in the actual crime rate, and how I don't hear nearly enough sirens for that to be true.)

There were also three officers going into my building when I was entering. I let them in and they were perfectly nice. They asked me a couple of questions; is the building nice, do people hang out in the halls a lot, have you ever had any trouble? (Yes, sometimes, never.) One of them asked for my name to write in his notebook. "They say we never talk to people in the community," he said, by way of explanation. A pleasant encounter, if a little weird. I wonder if this "talking to the community" policy has anything to do with the shooting in Bed-Stuy on Monday.

Heading out to a tavern tonight to hang out with Melis and Seth, and also to support Adam and State of Play Theatre. Everyone within a bus ride of New York should go see the show in December. I'm planning on seeing it for the second and a half time (staged readings don't really count, do they?).
