As I do some self-reflection, I’m taking a deep look at myself and what I’ve done in my jobs so far, in the hopes that by analyzing past decisions I can avoid future mistakes, and perhaps I can figure out what my next step should be

Hopefully it will be a comfort for you to know that many of us struggle with the same kind issues. I think it's rare (and precious) to find exactly what you want to do with your career, actually find it, and work it every day. It's not an easy task.
I agree with your other friends. Really reflect on what your past and future goals are, and write them down, so you'll have a reminder. Sometimes we get lost in trying to live and forget what we really want to do. Even read over your past LJ entries (many of them are your reflections on your career search, which may help you understand what direction you want to take). I think you've already answered some of these questions to yourself, so it may help to read through your past thoughts. I also agree with your friend in that I don't think the business world is for you. You seem to enjoy the education world much more.
Maybe it would help to write down two lists: things you really like to do and things you really don't like to do. I would even include your hobbies (e.g. going to museums and concerts), in addition to professional things and educational subjects you like. After you write everything down and look it over, it may help you visualize in paper what you may be interested in.
Don't despair about the situation (i.e. job) you're in - even though it's very hard. I believe that you learn something important from every situation (good or bad). Give yourself some relaxation time every day, so you don't get overwhelmed and to give you time to be you, gain some perspective, and contemplate your goals.
