TRIGGER WARNING: In this chapter there is mention of abortion and suicide. That part isn't vital to the story (other then showing that DG actually had friends in KS) so I have put it under a LJ cut.

The year since Nick had left passed in a weird time warp of mind numbing slowness and hyper speed.
DG had been taking art classes at the local community collage and had been told by more then one teacher that she had an incredible talent. She had even been asked to be part of the student showing - a rare honor for a first year student. That was the hyper speed part.
On the mind numbing slow end, she had started working at the Hilltop Diner. The shifts were long, the uniforms were stupid and the pay was laughable. But it got her out of the house and away from her mother's disapproving looks at her engagement ring.
The job also gave her time to work on her song writing. She had just put the finishing touches on the one about Abigail.
She and Abigail had met in home room freshman year and had quickly become best friends. They had been there for all of the others ups and downs.
Like the time Abigail had gotten pregnant.
She had sat in the back seat holding Abigail - tears streaming down both of their faces - while Nick drove them home from the clinic.
That was two years ago, and Abigail had never really gotten over the pain. Last week Abigail's older sister had announced that she and her husband were going to have a baby. Abigail had tried to slit her wrists that night, but her father had found her and took her to the emergency room.
When DG had found out she thew up, while she was rinsing her mouth the words just fell in to her head: when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you you're gonna believe them.
DG hadn't really slept since then, all of her feelings of sadness and and guilt swirling around in her head forming in to questions of “what if?”
What if she hadn't encouraged Abigail to date the bastard?
What if she had been more supportive of telling Abigail's parents?
What if...
What if...
What if...
But some how the answer to all those questions came back to the idea of a young girl believing a boy when he said he loved her.
You take a deep breath and you walk through the doors
It's the morning of your very first day
And you say hi to your friends you ain't seen in a while
Try and stay out of everybody's way
It's your freshman year and you're gonna be here
For the next four years in this town
Hoping one of those senior boys will wink at you and say
"You know, I haven't seen you around before"
'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
And when you're fifteen feeling like there's nothing to figure out
Well, count to ten, take it in
This is life before you know who you're gonna be
Fifteen
You sit in class next to a redhead named Abigail
And soon enough you're best friends
Laughing at the other girls who think they're so cool
We'll be outta here as soon as we can
And then you're on your very first date and he's got a car
And you're feeling like flying
And you're momma's waiting up and you're thinking he's the one
And you're dancing 'round your room when the night ends
When the night ends
'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
When you're fifteen and your first kiss
Makes your head spin 'round
But in your life you'll do things greater than
Dating the boy on the football team
But I didn't know it at fifteen
When all you wanted was to be wanted
Wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now
Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday
But I realized some bigger dreams of mine
And Abigail gave everything she had to a boy
Who changed his mind and we both cried
'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
And when you're fifteen, don't forget to look before you fall
I've found time can heal most anything
And you just might find who you're supposed to be
I didn't know who I was supposed to be at fifteen
Your very first day
Take a deep breath girl
Take a deep breath as you walk through the doors

Glyn paced nervously while he waited for the interview to begin. Why was he here? What did the Sorceress want from him? Why now, after four annuals?
The door opened and Raynz entered, “Mr. Ambrose, please be seated. This could take awhile.”
“What do you want from me?” Glyn asked, not moving from his spot.
“Ah, yes...” Raynz opened a folder and began to spread out pages of paper on the desk. “We have been going through your project files and we have many questions. Now why don't you sit down and tell me about this thing called the sun seeder.”

This trip had gone from bad to worse. The bus had been two hours late, she had been seated by the bathroom, there had been a mix up with the changing of drivers - all of which had put DG in to town after city hall had closed.
“Do you think this is a sign that maybe we should wait until I get back?” Nick asked.
DG whirled around and fixed him with sharp stare, “It took me two trips to get the license, a bus ride from hell to get here and now you say maybe we should wait?!” She took a deep breath and put a hand on Nick's chest, “I know I'm acting kind of crazy right now, but if you think you're deploying to Iraq without marrying me then you're the crazy one.”
Nick pulled her in for a hug, “All right, all right. Let's go see if the base chaplain has some free time.”
