Nick Cooper had been working with her Pops for a month and DG was going crazy.

He wasn't the cutest guy in town, but DG went wobbly ever time he flashed his eye crinkling grin at her. Whenever he ran a hand through his black hair, her heart would speed up.

When he talked about the girl he was going out with, DG wanted to cry.

That fast-wobbly-sad feeling was what had prompted DG up to her room and the comfort of her song book.

Nick looks at me
I fake a smile so he won't see
What I want and I need
And everything that we should be

I'll bet she's beautiful
That girl he talks about
And she's got everything
That I have to live without

Nick talks to me
I laugh 'cause it's just so funny
I can't even see
Anyone when he's with me

He says he's so in love
He's finally got it right
I wonder if he knows
He's all I think about at night

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing
Don't know why I do

Nick walks by me
Can he tell that I can't breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly
The kind of flawless I wish I could be

She better hold him tight
Give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes
And know she's lucky 'cause

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing
Don't know why I do

So I drive home alone
As I turn out the light
I'll put his picture down
And maybe get some sleep tonight

'Cuz he's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart
He's the song in the car I keep singing
Don't know why I do

He's the time taken up but there's never enough
And he's all that I need to fall into
Nick looks at me
I fake a smile so he won't see

You should be happy, Glyn thought to himself, you could be spending the rest of your life inside a jail cell.

The thought still wasn't comforting. As Glyn set up his office the interview with Azkidella kept playing over in his head.

He had slowly entered the room where the interviews were being held. It was dim, but he could still see Azkidella sitting in the queens throne, giving orders to some underling.

“Bow before the Sorceress,” A Longcoat shoved Glyn in the back to get him started.

Glyn swept his arm out as he said coldly, “You Majesty.”

“Leave us.” Azkadellia had said. The two guards glanced uneasily at one another for a second before slowly backing out of the room.

“So, Glyn...” She began. “Here we are.”

“Here we are.” he echoed.

Azkadellia waved her hand and the hand cuffs fell off of Glyn's wrists, “How did we get here, Glyn. How did every thing end up so topsy-turvy?”

“Azka -Dee...” Glyn began.

“No!” She spun to stare him down. “I am the Sorceress, the Queen of all the Outer Zones. Do not address me so informal, sir.”

“I beg forgiveness,” Glyn answered.

“There was a time when I had dreamed... But the time for dreaming has ended and now we must live with what we are.” Azkadellia turned away from him, “There are those who are far below you in rank who are spending the rest of their lives in prison. There are other advisers who have openly moved against me who have been put to death.” Glyn held his breath as he waited to hear which option would be his fate. “But for the dreams I once had, I will allow you this kindness, you will spend the rest of your days confined to the grounds of the College of Art and Athletic Perfection.”

DG was always excited about the first day of school. Getting to see her friends all day, the hope of the teachers, the hustle and bustle of the halls.

“Oh my god!” Abigail exclaimed. “Did you see that?”

DG looked around her for what ever had gotten Abigail so worked up, “Did I see what?”

“Nick Cooper just totally smiled at you!” Abigail grabbed DG's hand and let out a soft squeal. “He is a Senior!”

DG looked down the hall to were Nick Cooper was joking with some guys, “He worked for my Pop over the summer. If he smiled at me it didn't really mean anything.”

“I'm telling you, Deeg,” Abigail insisted “he looked right at you and smiled. That way!”

DG took a deep breath, “It doesn't matter if it was that way or not. Nick's dating Robin and there's no way I can compete with her.”

The sounds of horses hooves thundering towards the cabin alerted Adora to the incoming danger, “Wyatt! Wyatt! Longcoats!”

She ran to Jeb and quickly herded him into the cold room. “You stay there and stay quiet until the Longcoats are gone. You understand me?”

Without waiting to hear his answer, she spun around and ran towards the porch. When she heard the first shout, she let out a prayer to the unnamed god, “Please, keep him safe!”

Two Longcoats were holding Wyatt down, beating him savagely, while three others watched.

The leader was mocking him, “You thought you could get away with it with, Cain. You thought it would be just as easy as every thing else in your life has been?”

One of the solders brought his foot back, then kicked Wyatt hard in the stomach, “Don't hurt him!” Adora called out before she could stop herself.

“What's this?” The leader turned to her “Ah, you must be the hometown sweetheart.”

His eyes traced up and down her body and Adora suddenly felt that a bad situation was about to get even worse.

“Nick?” DG called as she walked into the barn.

“No, baby. I said I'll be there and I mean it.” Nick held up a finger at DG as he talked into his cell phone. “Yes, I'll wear the blue shirt. Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay. I love you, too babe.” He clicked the phone off and looked at DG.

“Dinner's ready,” She said softly.

“Well then,” Nick slung an arm over her shoulder, “Let's go get some grub.”

You're on the phone with your girlfriend, She's upset
She's going off about something that you said
She doesn't get your humor like I do

I'm in the room, its a typical Tuesday night
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do

But she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming bout the day when you'll wake up and find
That what you're lookin' for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Walkin' the streets with you in your worn out jeans
I cant help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on the park bench thinkin' to myself
Hey isn't this easy?

And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town
I haven't seen it in awhile, since she brought you down
You say you find I know you better than that
Hey, What'cha' doing with a girl like that?

She wears high heels, I wear sneakers
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming bout the day when you'll wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me

Standin' by, waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know that?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Oh, I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're about to cry
I know your favorite songs and you tell me about your dreams
I think I know where you belong. I think I know it's with me.

Can't you see that I'm the one who understand you?
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me

Standing by or waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know that
You belong with me
You belong with me

Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me
You belong with me.

DeMillo waited impatiently in the door way of the warehouse. His seller was fifteen minutes late and he didn't know how much longer it would be before the patrol would be back around.

Two days ago the patrols had started. Not the regular Longcoats looking for trouble makers, no, these men had bottles full of pink liquid that they would spray. DeMillo had seen what happened to the poor suckers that got covered in the mist - the memory of it made him shudder. The sound of cart wheels and the call of “Vapors! Azkadellia's vapors!” made him slink back in to the ally. Forget the deal, if he got caught in that pink haze he would never care about any thing again.

DG was over the moon. Nick had dumped Robin two weeks ago and today in the hall he grabbed her elbow as she was making her way to math, “Hey DG, you wanna go to the dance Friday with me?”

She had been to stunned to say anything right then and the tide of kids trying to get to class had pulled them apart.

“I'll pick you up at seven!” Nick yelled to her and DG let herself be swept off to math class with a huge grin on her face.
