today's pet peeve...
...is the rampant misuse of the word codependent. Online, on TV, and in life I see many people use this word when they really are just plain old dependent on someone.
Codependent is when one person in a relationship is addicted to a substance (or some other form of unhealthy behavior) and the other person in the relationship is psychologically dependent on the first person, also in an unhealthy way. The first person is dependent on the drug or what not, and the second on the other person, thus, codependency.
UPDATED to say, while I think there can be a slightly broader definition of codependent, I think a lot of people use it when they really are just dependent, whether it be emotional, financial or physical. And those dependencies are not always bad.
