Room 515 ... make that Room 516, Tuesday Afternoon

Jul 03, 2007 18:09

When Naminé returned to her room mid-afternoon, she noticed a slip of paper lying on her desk.

She read it over a few times and tried to make sense of it, but failed. It seemed to be saying that she had been selected to be a Big Sibling ... to RaphaelRaphael had arrived at the island the same time she had, at the beginning of summer. Surely he ( Read more... )

Raph had taken his first night, and long into his first morning back to 'spend some quality time' with tiny-Mikey, as Donnie'd so pleasantly suggested. Consequently, he was only just waking up as he heard the knock . He'd kept Mikey close when he'd finaly gone to bed, and nudged his little brother to make sure he was ok.

Raph would rather have been waking up to snores of 'duuude' than a knock at the door. Nevertheless, he hauled himself out of bed and trudged over to open it, Mikey's bandana still around his neck. "Yeah, what?" He leaned in the doorway, knuckling at one eye lazily.

Tiny-Mikey, who'd tucked into his shell for sleep, emerged to start his daily scooting routine as Raph got up.

"Raphael." Naminé tilted her head at him curiously. "My apologies, I hope I didn't wake you. I was just curious about the paper I got, for the sibling program. It can wait."

"Huh? Nah... It's ok. I should be gettin' up anyway." He cocked an eyebrow at Naminé, backing up a bit. "Uh, come in, I guess." He went over to his bed to scoop up his brother(who'd slipped back down the pillow and was wondering why the world had suddenly turned upside-down).

"So, what about the sibling thing?" Raph half-turned back to Namine, leaning against his bed.

Naminé stepped into the room tentatively, glancing the small turtle Raphael was holding. It was sort of an unusual choice for a pet, unless it was somehow a relative or friend of theirs. She supposed it wasn't her place to judge.

"That's what I was hoping to ask you." She held out the piece of paper she'd brought with her. "I seem to be assigned as the Big Sibling for someone named Raphael. I didn't think it was a very common name, but then, you've been here just as long as I have, haven't you?"

"...Yeah, I have." He accepted the paper, giving it a dubious look. Having a 'Big Sibling' from the same group of new people made so much sense, really. "Last I checked, I already had a Big Sibling, but I'm the only Raphael I know of." Not that he'd gone out to meet anyone, really.

He handed the paper back to Naminé, then offered her the little turtle as well. They were friends, so he figured Mikey wouldn't mind, at least. "You mind holdin' Mikey? I don't wan' him to walk off the bed or somethin'." Once the little turtle had exchanged hands, Raph turned to his side of the room to rummage. He didn't remember seeing anything, but he hadn't looked, either.

"If you haven't seen a paper, then perhaps there's another Raphael here. It's not so unlikely that another parent might be a fan of The Masters, I suppose." Naminé held the little turtle in one hand and petted him lightly with the other, smiling. "I don't mind at all. He's very cute. Did you name him for Michelangelo? Your brother, I mean, and not the painter."

Raph was crouched by his bed, looking to see if anything had fallen behind it, but it seemed to be attached to the wall. He paused as he stood back up, looking up at Naminé. She didn't know? Oops? Should he break the news gently, or something? He wasn't good at that kind of thing.

Straightforward would have to do. His brow furrowed a little, "Naminé... that is my brother." At the very least, he tried to speak more gently than usual, voice softer.

Naminé blinked, and then shook her head quickly. "He's ... I don't understand." Her voice was wavering slightly as she looked at the turtle in her hands. "Michelangelo? Are you all right?"

Raphael walked over to her slowly, voice still pitched lower. "He can't talk. Donnie says he'll be ok, though. Said it was just a 'Fandom thing'. People turn into animals all the time, then turn back and are just fine."

"I see," Naminé said softly. "So he'll be all right, then. That's ... that's very good to hear."

She was trembling slightly as she continued to carefully brush her fingers over the small turtle.

"Hey~ It's gonna be all right. I'm sure Mikey'll be back to normal in no time, bouncin' off the walls, bein' himself, y'know?" He tried to sound nonchalant, but Raph honestly wasn't sure about it all. Naminé seemed more shook up about it than he was anyway, so he could at least try not to seem panicked.

He reached out to put a hand on her shoulder, gentle, but maybe a little awkward. Yeah, he didn't do that 'comforting, touchy-feely' thing much. He could count the number of times he had on one hand. For a guy with three fingers? Well, you get the point.

Naminé nodded, still not looking up. "I-I'm certain you're right. There's nothing to be so worried about, after all. Michelangelo ... he's resilient, if nothing else."

Michelangelo was also nuzzling happily against her fingers, so that much seemed true.

Naminé froze for a split second when Raphael placed a hand on her shoulder, but so quickly that he might have missed it. It was all right, he was safe, and she closed her eyes a little, grateful for the comfort.

Raph caught the tension, but ignored it since she seemed so easy to relax again. He nodded to her. "Yeah. That's Mikey, good at bouncin' back." He glanced at the little turtle with a half-smirk, watching him nuzzle her fingers. Typical Mikey. Even as a little guy he had a thing for cute girls.

"You guys got to be pretty good friends, huh? He's seems real happy t'see ya."

"He was the first person I met here," Naminé said quietly. "We had only spoken for five minutes and he jumped to place himself between me and danger. Without any hesitation or even knowing what was going on. He's ... incredibly sweet."

She was still stroking his shell, and he was still cheerfully hanging out on her palm.

He smiled. Actually smiled. "Mikey has his moments. He's a good guy." Raph cocked his head a little. "Wait... What danger were you in?"

Naminé shook her head, not quite meeting his eyes. "It was a misunderstanding. I thought someone here was someone else, or rather, I thought he was here for me and not himself. I panicked, and Michelangelo stepped forward, insisting anyone wanting to hurt me would need to deal with him first."

She looked up with a wistful smile. "I couldn't find words to thank him properly."
