don't want to be a canadian idiot
hey all. so i've been back from canada for about a week now. i had so much fun! i posted some pics on my xanga www.xanga.com/paleopunkrocks and i'm too lazy to repost them on here. i met some cool people, got to see a lot of beautiful architecture, drink beer and learn about a lot of cool new research and talk to some people about mine. the people i talked to acted like what i was doing was cool/important so i feel pretty good about it.
when i got back things were super busy. friday night was our halloween open house in the geology department. we've been doing it for the last three years. we've always had a good turnout (~150 people for 2 hours) but this year was crazy. we had over 600 just kids this year, not counting the parents! i had kokoro out and we had a bunch of fossils and dr. brochu had a bearded dragon and some other snakes and what not. the kids went apeshit over the snakes this year. it was really cool to see so many kids excited and asking lots of science questions and being fascinated with the fossils. i used to be so afraid of kids and now i'm getting to be really comfortable. i love that i get to help them learn about a subject that fascinates them and show them that its not just a silly notion to want to be a paleontologist, that it is a real profession and that they can grow up to do it one day. it was also really cool to get the parents involved too. a lot of the parents wouldn't come near the reptiles, but by the time they left they were petting the snakes and even holding them. we have totally started a snake love outreach program.
my halloween costume is awesome. i have made my gogo yubari costume and it will rock your socks off. i wore it friday night but i don't have any pictures yet. i'll get some and put them up.
last night we drove to some small town in iowa to go to a haunted house. it was a pretty good one. i screamed a lot and mina sacrificed me in front of her to some murdering car jackers at the end. she pushed me in front and yelled "take her she's younger". i see how it is.
afterwards we drove back and watched "wild zero" a japanese zombie movie with a punkrock band of zombie killers lead by guitar wolf. at the end he wailed on the guitar and then pulled it apart revealing that it was actually a sword and killed the alien ship that was controlling the zombies saving the day. i won't tell anymore, its too good and you should all go watch it.
now today i have a huge ass morphometrics paper to write and i don't want to because all i want to do is have halloween fun. grrrrrrr, stupid school.
