Hello all!
I'm now writing to you from steamy, cloudy, hot as hell Florida. Well, to be fair right now its cooled off a bit, but when I pulled into St. Augustine last night I thought I was going to die it was so bloody miserable out.
Here's a little recap of the trip down. Left IC early in the morning thursday and drove to good ol' monmouth to pick up Ry. My mom tried to teach Ryan how to drive a five speed in 10 minutes. Not suprising it failed. My mom packed us snacks and sandwiches. I love her, she is too cute for her own good. We decided to take a longer, but more interesting route there. Instead of taking 6 miserable hours going through southern illlinois (blech) we drove to indiana and through kentucky and decided to stop outside of nashville. I was so excited, I got to hear a country twang for the first time. We totally realized the best place to eat dinner was olive garden. Wow, I never thought that words like parmegiania and manicotti could sound like that. Amazing.
We went and watched the Devil Wears Prada. Not the greatest choice, but it was like the last thing showing. I think Anne Hathaway is thouroughly annoying. Ok, I admit I loved the Princess Diaries, but she is like the exact same character in every movie. I very much enjoyed Meryl Streep's role. Ryan things Anne Hathaway is hot and "wants to do many bad things to her" so I suppose it was worth our time. In the morning we ate at Waffle House. Oh I just love Waffle House. Our waiter saw my Illinois liscence plates before we even got in. He was really cool and was all about asking us questions and quizzing us on the south. He flipped out when I said I had never eaten grits (even though he hates them) and immediately brought me a bowl for free. I tried them with butter and salt, and then with syrup. I thought they were kind of nasty. I have major texture issues...I also don't really like oatmeal or cream of wheat or anything else like that, but I ate them and didn't want to vomit so I guess they weren't really that bad. I also tried sweet tea. I usually hate sweetened tea, but this was good! The waiter and I explained to Ry why it was different. Oh, and the waiter told us a few jokes. How can you tell the difference between a prostitue and a waffle house waitress? Answer: You don't! ha ha ha. Oh and whats the difference between a musician in nashville and a pizza? Answer: One can feed a family of four. I really loved this guy.
So we travelled on and I flipped out when we got to awesome rocks. I kept screaming at Ry to take pictures of outcrops. At least he took some intro geology so when i yelled things like look at those quartz veins he knew what i meant and got some good pictures for me. Driving on big ass hills is also very fun.
We saw some great signs too. We saw the "most awesome flea market in the world". I think that was just about our favourite.
Georgia is way too freaking long for its own good. We stopped in Macon on the southern edge. Wow, that place was fucked up. All the gas stations like had no gas and the one that did was prepay and was old school. The pumps didn't even give the price of the gas. I did see my first piggly wiggly here though. Awesome.
I dropped Ry off in Gainesville and then drove on freaky back roads through florida to St. Augustine. I almost had a panic attack when I was out in the dark driving alone through Florida. I've never really travelled, especially by myself so it was just weird at first.
I *finally* got to the hotel and Steph sweeped me back out the door for the 10:45 showing of Pirates. Wow, it was awesome. I've always had big things for both Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom so even if it sucked it would have at least been worth the money.
This morning we got up bright and early and went to the Alligator Farm. Its really cool, but much less wild than I had imagined. I think this is a good thing. I took a few pictures, but will have to take many many more. Steph and I took out some of the cow and pig femurs from the freezer and put them in the thawing room so they are ready to go on Monday. Damn those cow femurs are huge...this is going to be awesome. I have fallen in love too while I'm here...with a chinese alligator. Oh my god its sooooo adorable! Oh and they have birds here...they even have a hooded vulture from africa! Thats one I used for my reasearch! It was so amazing to see it in real life.
We went to the beach and I saw the atlantic for the first time and played in the waves. I learned that sand hurts when its windy. Tonight Steph wasn't feeling so hot so we stayed in and I went on a quest for food. I decided to go to Checkers. Not that exciting, but new for me so I thought it would be fun and cheap all at the same time. I'm not exactly sure what was up, but I was in the drive through for like and hour! I was only four or five cars back when i got there, but they took bloody forever! All the people behind me were screaming and honking. Yeah it was annoying, but what did they think screaming down the road was going to do? I just put on some Sublime and rocked out. Listening to Sublime is so much better here. Granted, its no Long Beach, but being in a warm sunny place seems to make the music vibe so much more.
Well, I suppose this was a hugely long post so I'm going to quit now. My camera linky cord thingy isn't working so I can't post any pics until I get back unless I break down and go buy a card reader. I suppose we'll see.
