Is it difficult to remove the lid from the pot? Most of my friction-fit lids have a little loop of leather through a couple slits, so I've something to tug them out with, but if I don't need to do that extra step I'd be happy to do less work.

One really should have some form of tab or knob, but this one works ok if one "thumbs" it off from one of the narrower ends (I'm thinking of trying to carve a lid with an integral knob for this).

The clean design appeals to me, and since it is very tight now adding holes would detract from it. Not sure if I'll use it myself, put it into the "gift" box or try to sell it.

BTW, do you have any notion of how old this type of container is? It is technically doable with migration era tools, so so are blue jeans...

Roland Fällman says it's at least medieval. I've only seen extant examples from the 18th century, but that may only be a relic of where I've been looking.
