Word Count Fiesta--March (a monthly state-of-the-writing address...)

Apr 03, 2010 17:31

Thanks to mini_nanowrimo, I realized that I write better, more regularly, and with more accountability if I write every day and record my word count. So far, the plan is working, and this is my third monthly update...

March was much more productive than February or January, even with a trip in there. I am slowly gearing up for my upcoming slew of writing ( Read more... )

*hugs* Just trying to stay focused on stuff. I could be so much more productive, but I am soooooooo easily distractable. It's like ooh shiny fic! and I'm off. :D

*Chokes*

*Looks at sad 10,000 words for J2 and sad 13,000 for BB*

I've written over 100K in a month before? And 30K in one day (once)... I can't be productive like that all the time, but sometimes? My muse is verbose... I am jealous of people who can write 500-word ficlets that make sense. :)

10K and 13K are no small feat! Go you!! :D *cheers for bigbang*

Dude, that is so awesome! Before I had the kiddos I could pull that off...*sigh* - but I did get a talent for drabbles while I was preganant - couldn't write anything else, lol! Brain was too fuzzy! Couldn't do it before, but...yeah.

Thanks honey. The BB is going to be a standalone, but in the end it will lead to a much bigger story. OY. Me and my damned epics! They always get out of hand!

*hugs you*

What is it about epics? I feel like we need some sort of epic repellant right up there with our need for plot bunny repellant... I have the same problem. Everything I think about turns out *huge*!!

Right?! UGH, it's ridiculous! And people wonder why I don't fic more *whimpers* - they gett intimidating! And dammit, I got two plot bunnies off of the last eppie ALONE *cries*

*Passes over plot bunny mace?* Maybe this will help? I can't stand posting WIPs myself 'cause I don't tend to write in a linnear fashion. So, writing LOOOOOONG stories makes me post rather infrequently.

Thanks! Maybe that will help wrestle them pesky things back into submission!

You have that too, huh? I'm all OVER the board - and kinda inconsistent in a way, so it makes it a pain to try to post any WIPs.

I guess I should quit bitching! I'm just estatic to have my Muse back after a couple of years of a dry spell!

*hugs*

Yep; I write chapters from all different parts of a fic at once and then have a bitch of a time trying to knit them back together; sometimes I can write linearly, but not always. Yay for cooperative muses!! :D

Tis always tricky - but you make it so seamless in the end! *Marvels*

Indeed!!

*Clinks glasses with you*

Thank you! I do make mistakes sometimes and they grate at me... then again other times I turn them into something cool (the mistakes that is).

*clinks glasses back* :)

I wish I could do that! I've had whole fics that have had to be dumped because of one disaster! *Sigh*

I love talking with you! This is awesome!

Love talking to you too!! :D

Yeah, I found (after I had posted it) that in Hunters of the Dark Side I'd made Mary's lightsaber two different colors... When I caught the mistake I figured out how to turn it into a very important plot point in the sequel!

I think fic is like art... art teachers are always saying silly stuff about mistakes not being mistakes and you can turn them into something... and when I go rather wrong with fic, I try to do that (make it into something; make it fit) rather than scrap it... unless I really, really hate it! :)

*Happy Squishes!*

Ohhh, see! Now that is neat! Wish my mistakes could do neat things like that, lol!!

I've scraped so many fics. But then, I've left some alone (like Sometimes) and posted it anyway even when I was uphappy with it at the time - and it is definitely my most poplular fic! Especially now, it seems.

There are certain days of the month (TMI, I'm sure) that I can't write and it frustrates me to no end! But the Muse usually kicks back in afters and I can get it rolling again - usually right where I left off! Wish my mind wasn't so damned persnickety!

Ah, well we all have fickle muses and persnickety minds... and writer's block and other annoying things from time to time.

I just write along the path of least resistance. Whatever scene is easiest is usually what I go for... only sometimes this means I throw in random details about characters when I'm half asleep and then I forget about them and have to try to catch and make sense of the contradiction later! *sigh*

But yay!! We right stuff, right? And people read it and we enjoy, so it's all worth it!! :D
