Read whispers undergrounds over the weekend. Quite entertaining, and not at all what I was expecting, though I thought that the mystery was on the weak side. But one thing which I had kind of suspected before became clear as I read this book: the British conception of bureaucracy is exactly like that of the chinese. Americans and Japanese may complain about it, but only the Chinese and the British have bureaucracy built into their legends and collective consciousness. I also need to get out of this habit of reading series backward: I suspect that it's part of why I didn't enjoy this books as much as I thought.
