Finally picked up China Mieville. Got Perdido Station and The Scar from the Borders @ penn station that's closing, rather sad. He's one of the authors that people are always surprised that I haven't read, and in fact I'm surprised myself that I haven't either. Well, now that I'm half way through them, I'm not sure if I'm actually missing something extremely subtle or deep in his writing, or if he's just a... well, a one trick pony. He makes quite an impression at the start, I must admit, but then it's just more and more and more of the same thing. And these these little snippets in italic are absolutely the most irritating thing, until I realize that they add neither information nor to the mood, and I could easily skip them, which made it less of a slog.
