It took some time but eventually the tank was filled with water. Taking extra care so not to splash it around and cause items to tumble over. Some things did move but they were able to adjust them back with ease.
It was finally starting to look like a good home for fishes.
Once they had the water in, it was time for the heater and filter; Midnight handed the heater to Vesper for attachment to the side of the tank, while he poked and prodded the charcoal and such into the filter.
And then it was plant time! 'Armed' with bundles of clinging water-plants, Midnight smiled with amusement as he prepared to go arm-deep into the tank.
"But if you don't like it, then I will need to take it apart and do over --"
Just as teasing, Midnight moved over so that Vesper could take part in the decidedly wet planting.
"Once we have everything finished, we're supposed to float the bags with the fish in the tank for a little while until they get used to the temperature."
"It does." Vesper made a face as he was fidgeting with one of the plants.
It was hard to tell if that was to the idea of being stuck in a bag just inches away from a new home or his perfectionism struggling with getting a plant just right.
"I like it. Now, if we can get the water in without anything moving ..."
"Hm. What do you think, if we made the plants thicker at either end, and just scattered them where the stones and things are?"

"I like that idea."

"I think this is likely to need both of us --"

"I don't know," He teased, "I think you could do it."
Even so, Vesper did move to help out Midnight some with the plants and securing them around the tank. It was just fun to tease.

"It seems a little unfair ..."

"How long is 'a little while'?"

As he spoke, Midnight had picked up one of the bags and was watching the greeny-gold swordtails swim in the little circles the space allowed them.
"Still. I'd rather they were safe."
