Is it politically correct to refer to a black guy as a 'brother' in a serious new article? Oh well. An interesting piece, I would have thought that the comparisons were justified, although as the end of the article says, chickens are only of value in sandwiches and not as animals, and sadly I don't think this will change any time soon

Wow. What a mysterious creature. It's the "Local fishermen have their own ideas about what the animal is and where it came from" part that seems particular Saucecraftian here - there's a certain chill in those words. I wonder when we'll admit we know incredibly little about the world. Probably just before we get eaten. No, I bet even then we'll remain arrogant until Cthulhu is replete and reclining on a beach somewhere, burping contentedly and having his teeth picked by happy dolphins who aren't going to be minced alive by fishermen anymore

...I am posting a parcel to you later today, so hopefully it will reach you soon :)
Thanks for asking about the washed-up, I relayed the info on to the mother. It must have been one or two birds and not some horrific oil-slick as the warden at first feared.
I asked my brother if he'd heard of the mysterious beastie washed up on Chinese shores and he said there was nothing in the news. Hardly surprising. Kraaken = sushi!
I read Fatherland first, and then Archangel and then Enigman (which I found very tedious). His Pompeii is enjoyable to read, quite accessible (and entertaining for a Classicist) even if some of the plot is mundane and a few of the characters a little cold. I have it somewhere if you fancy giving it a go :)

Oh, thank you! At last I've heard Bernd say 'Mist!' Am dreading exam considerably but looking forward to the end of it. Hope you've had a good week - I have finished that crappy story but of course not managed to send it to you yet :/ Though it is so crappy that you're better off without it.
Incidentally [yet fittingly, given 'randomly' above], there was a terrible programme on TV while you were in Turkey about the 'Truth behind the DaVinci Code' or some such piffle. I couldn't bear to watch - it appeared while I was avoiding adverts during another programme on C4 - but I did see in those few awful minutes a bunch of Gardnerian witches prancing about in a forest and explaining how they knew nothing of paganism until they read the DVC.
Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111! Will this scourge upon the earth never end?
Oh bugger, I'd better go back to revision things :( Thanks so much for thinking of me xxx
