Here are some clips of the In The Heights documentary

The PBS doc "In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams" is good, not great.

Why? Cause it's pretty boilerplate. I don't feel like it reveals anything. Although it's cool that they feature Priscilla Lopez, who was in the OBC of "A Chorus Line" and has a big role in this show, they don't feature the actress that plays Abuela Claudia, nor do they focus much on the actor that plays "Sonny," Robin De Jesus. I found him to be a singular type of actor and I really want to learn more. Nor do they talk about Miranda's acceptance speech (Hey mr. sondheim, I made a hat, where there never was a hat, and a latin hat at that!)

As always, I wish there was more.

But. Lin-Miranda is just amazing to listen to; the passion just comes out of those big brown eyes right into your own. I don't know how talented he is overall, but in this project, it beats with his heart. And it shows.

And as always, this doc reminds me that actors live poor and crazy lives, but marginally better than dancers, who might as well be slaves. Beautiful living art slaves.

And oh lord, HD. HD changes everything. The interviews are all shot in close up, which is how i want ever documentary made ever. It's brilliant and revealing, and ravishing - all those faces, mostly coffee and gold, just shining in light. I love it.
