Making yourself go mad....

Lately I've been taking more time than usual to ponder the horrors of the world. Lena posted today about how awful the process of getting our meat supply is and thats a part of the things I've been torturing myself with for some reason. I think I really started it a week or so ago when the heat went way up. I was pondering all the animals and how they were doing in the heat. Not wildlife, the tame pets. How many times have I seen a poor dog staked out in the blazing sun on a chain, the only shade his broiling little house and if hes lucky a bucket of questionably clean water beside it. I guess seeing all the kids snuggled sleeping in their hammocks in blissful slumber in a climate controlled 70 degrees added to it. I couldnt help wonder how many ferrets, mice, hamsters, ect were stuck in a filthy cage in some airless humid roasting house. I suppose the people werent doing much better, but if you cant provide some modicum of comfort for a pet, DONT GET ONE. Booch often says how she really dislikes people and loves animals. She means in a general sense, but I understand that feeling. Of course if you stop and let the true magnitude of this horror eat at you, it could very easily drive you mad. So you have to set a daily quota of guilt and let it seep in. Humanity should thank its lucky stars I'm not the omnipotent ruler of everything, because an awful lot of them would be found lacking very quickly and be destroyed. If this really IS the only place in the universe that has managed to grow advanced life, isnt it truely sad that we, the "advanced" life forms, have all but managed to totally fuck up this planet and all thats on it?
