...50 Cent vs. Kanye West. Thug vs. Prep. Old School vs. New School. Streets vs. Suburbs.

This entry is about two of the biggest superstars in Hip-Hop music, Kanye West and 50 Cent.
This post is not about who will sell more records(there are a slew of them all over the internet) but instead of the brains behind the whole set-up.

Management behind both artists know that the die-hard hip-hop fan will purchase their respective CDs so they have been planning a scheme targeted towards the group of people who are pondering about making a purchase. In any business, buzz is nearly as important as substance. Below are the steps made by the two artists' record labels to increase buzz about their up-coming releases:

-both pushed back their albums so they could build up more interest
-release date of their albums are on the same day, 9/11
-50 Cent starts "beefing" or arguing with Kanye West through the media
-50 Cent promises the public that if he does not sell more records than Kanye West in the first week of sales then he will quit making solo albums
-They will both appear on "106 and Park", a hip-hop music show that displays the top 10 music videos at the moment, to "debate" about who's album is better. Date of the "debate"? 9/11.

50 Cent is either liked or hated. So his promise will bring more sales...depending on whether you hate him or like him. It gives the notion to the consumer that you can choose to either prolong his career or end it. 50 Cent and Kanye West are not foes, they are friends...helping each other make more money.
