He awoke from his bed with a cheerful attitude that morning, quite joyful at the idea of spending the rest of his life- and of course, working life- as a dapper human being. That cursed enchantment had been broken the former day, setting the entire castle into a night of celebration, their evening spent rejoicing the depression and disaster that they had all overcome; the ballroom had been truly lively for the first time in so long. And so with a spring in his step, the majordomo arose from his bed and jumped to the floor of... the hallways? No, everything was fine, it was a usual everyday occurrence to jump out of bed and end up fully dressed outside of your bedroom door; It was normal and Cogsworth dismissed it as such.

He began to stride through the golden, beautiful baroque hallways, humming a merry tune, so overjoyed as not to notice the lack of servants bustling through the halls... not to notice that those beautiful, golden hallways were growing a little darker. Cogsworth was only brought back to the reality of the situation as a cold chill ran down his spine, stealing all heat in its escape, as if it were fleeing from a deadly, oncoming tempest. Only then did Cogsworth notice the one figure of a familiar man, a familiar friend; the man that then stood staring at the glowing, minute flame that hovered just above his fingers, illuminating a waxy sheen on the fire-bearer's skin and the less-than-approving look on his face.

"Lumiere?" Cogsworth shouted, attempting to alert his friend, to find out what he was doing and why. Instead of replying, Lumiere only looked up with the same, solemn expression before snuffing out the flame into total darkness and darting off down the hall like a white rabbit. "Lumiere! Stop this and come back here right now!" Oh how Cogsworth hated it when the other servants didn't listen to him. He ran down the pitch black hallway after Lumiere, never knowing where he was going and only following the sound of footsteps.

Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock, time was running out. Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock... Cogsworth could hear it as he began to run out of breath, he could hear the tick-tocks all around him, telling him to hurry, laughing at him. The ticks and tocks weren't 'all around' however, and Cogsworth was soon to realize this as he heard the tick-tocks chime exactly as his heart beat. His mind couldn't decipher what was happening, his heart only beat faster, the ticking growing even louder as his panic got worse. He raised a hand to his chest, hoping that in some way the pressure of his hand on the spot of his heart would do something... only to find that he had a metal arm and no chest to place it on.

Quite suddenly the lights of the hallway all burst into flame, lighting up the dark, dusty halls and lighting up the nightmare in all of his reached dreams. There he stood a clock, staring now at the candelabra at the end of the hallway, looking as if he had news of a death to give. "The rose. She 'as shed her last petal."

The flames grew higher and began to set fire to the hallways, engulfing everything around him. The sad, melting face of his friend was the last thing he saw before he shot upright in a sweat, now human and now sitting in his Paixao bed. The ticking was now only coming from the clock on the wall.

cogsworth, lumiere
