Hei had a cluster of beasts to concentrate on, so he didn't notice the woman backing away. He had stayed close to Squall however, covering him from behind, since the gun-swordsman was mostly working on those who were dashing and leaping in front of him.

The on-going adrenaline was a side effect in the speed enhancement, and it kept him going. He focused and mentally reached towards the contract he and Bai shared. His body began to glow a blue hue again. His eyes shined like a twin set of red stars.

With still a lot of energy to spare, he slashed and electrocuted the glowing beasts that aimed to bite him. The heat from the fire attack consuming three medium sized cats Hei could feel--but he wasn't going to let himself be distracted by yet another variant the caster had in her arsenal.

A larger cat bounded out into the open, past one of the buildings nearby. As big as a Great Dane, Hei kept watch on it the best he could while knocking down and frying more of the smaller ones with blue-white currents of lightning. He noticed the spikes bristling around its neck and down its back, but most of his attention was towards the closer horde.
