Even before his arrival, there was a lot Timon had wondered about regarding the elections. He had never been to one before, the ‘leader types’ at home usually descendants of previous leaders or abusers of force to ‘earn’ such a position. Was it normal for those running to appear? He was doubtful that the other candidates would be making appearance after what the Master had told him, that including the infamous Marcus Praetoris who had seemingly appeared from nowhere, but as far as he was concerned it was their loss. This was the perfect opportunity to persuade voters and sway their vote. They were stupid for not taking advantage of that. They could have even debated live outside the temporary offices but for reasons everyone could have probably agreed on was that their noted absents was probably for the best, incredibly so for Timon ( ... )

Vyers let out a heavy sigh, following after Timon and watching citizens and visitors alike file into the voting booths. While the meerkat did seem to be the best choice out of all the potential mayors, the demon had good reason to worry about Timon's public relations. Vyers had had the feeling that it would be better to follow Timon and make sure he didn't do anything to ruin his chances at a vote.

Meanwhile, he began to turn various speeches over in his head, trying to piece together something of his own. Something of enough power, of enough elegance to touch the hearts of those coming to vote.

"Mm... Perhaps you should begin by saying what you plan to change?" he suggested. "Make it a powerful statement. One that will pull their attention to you!" Timon already had the voice and the volume for it, so that wouldn't need any help.

He turned his attention back to Vyers and raised a brow at the demons suggestion. Hm, it looked as though Vyers was actually making himself useful for once. Timon shared a small grin with him, notably taken a liking to the idea. Whether or not anything the demon said would be actually helpful had yet to be decided but at least he was trying to be of some assistance. The meerkat rubbed his chin in thought while he reflected on the demon’s words. “Somethin’ that’ll pull their attention to me, hu?” he repeated. With a snap of his ‘fingers’ he jumped out of his serious state, a wide smile across his face. “That’s it, I got it!”

“Citizens of Paixao, you are all in serious danger!” he shouted.

Suddenly finding far more eyes than he had ever expected on him, Timon realized that may have been a little too powerful a statement… Vyers had said to use something that would really get their attention though and that he had done well, too well. Surprised by the response he had received, he stood in place, struggling to think of what to say next ( ... )

Ah, wonderful! Timon was actually going to follow his advice for once. It was a welcome change and Vyers couldn't help the proud, if not smug, look that appeared on his face ( ... )

Timon could not figure out why the demon looked so nervous when he had shared a glance with him but that was probably for the best. The less he knew regarding his odds the more he could concentrate on his campaign promises. He assumed the smile was meant to assure him he was doing well and to continue, though he wished the demon had offered more. Another suggestion as to how he would ‘fix’ the city would have been nice, though Vyers appeared to have had enough trouble with a simple smile ( ... )

Timon actually seemed to be doing fairly well so far. It was surprising. Pleasantly surprising, of course, but surprising nonetheless. While he knew Timon was somewhat capable, considering all of the information he had collected on the Organization, he... Well, to be blunt, he hadn't been expecting to hear so many good suggestions to change the city come from the meerkat in such a short amount of time.

"Who would make up this defense force you mentioned?" Vyers asked, genuinely curious. "And how would you choose them?" He touched a finger just below his lips as he waited for an answer. "Ah, speaking as a visitor concerned for the welfare of this city, of course!"

Surprised to hear Vyers interrupt him, he turned to look back him again in confusion. “Hu?” He had never said that demon couldn’t ask him questions regarding his campaign but he honestly hadn’t expected him to either. The meerkat frowned a little and scratched his head, thrown off by the inquiry. “Oh, uh… Well, really I couldn’t tell you - not because I don’t know or anything.” He chuckled nervously. “No! That’s definitely not it. It’s just that they’d prefer to, ah, keep their names disclosed at this point in time. A close comrade and I have personally chosen those who make up this force along with tested their skills and abilities. So, to answer your real question, no; you don’t have much of a chance of gettin’ in.”

Or it could have been that Timon was making things up as he went along. Vyers suppressed the urge to bury his face in his palms once again, instead opting to put as much focus as possible into keeping his quickly rising feelings of annoyance off of his face. While he was able to meet with a fair amount of success in this endeavor, it was likely that the eye twitch he had suddenly adopted would give him away.

"Why am I not allowed in?" he asked, keeping his other questions about the matter to himself. (What "comrade" was he talking about?!)

Timon gave a groan and, unlike Vyers, gave into the urge to hide his face in his palm. Somehow he was not surprised that the demon insisted on prodding further on the topic. Anything he refused to let Vyers in on always appeared to peak his interest. Then again, it usually worked the same with him. The meerkat slowly slid his paw down his face before he turned his glance back to Vyers.

“Because I have more important plans for you.” The meerkat replied simply. He would allow the demon take his words however he desired. Whether or not that promised Vyers the higher position he had irritably been pestering Timon about for a hefty share of time he had no intention of telling him.

"Any other questions?"

It took Vyers a moment to realize what exactly had been said and a little bit longer to realize that it was, indeed, about him. The demon's eyebrows rose a fraction with the realization and soon Vyers' usual air of pride (slightly tinged with what he would never admit to be arrogance) was back in place. Surely Timon had finally realized his true worth and had developed a position to meet it. The tiny, needling voice of doubt in his mind attempted to remind him exactly who he was talking to, but it was easily brushed aside.

"Not at all! I am quite appeased for the time being. That is, unless there is anything else you would like to add?"

The meerkat rolled his eyes. He had a feeling that would bring the demons questioning to a close. However, he was not about to complain. This would at least allow him to rest at ease from any unexpected questions. He had already been put on the spot once because of Vyers. Thankfully his sharp wit had been able to save him, not that there had ever been any doubt. According to him, no one in the city could outwit him.

He gave a soft hum in thought before he gestured for Vyers to lean down. “You think now would be a good time to bring up the fur brushing, gold, pearls, diamonds and other expensive jewellery?” Timon asked quietly.

Even after the rather promising display he had given, Timon was still Timon.

Vyers blinked confusedly at the sudden motion, but complied, having to kneel down in order to meet the meerkat's height. He wasn't entirely sure why Timon was suddenly deciding to be so quiet about whatever he had to say, but once the words were said, Vyers was infinitely grateful for the fact that he had chosen to say it how he did.

Attempting to keep at least half of the horror he felt off his face, Vyers murmured a quiet, half-dazed "No. No it would not."

What was that look supposed to mean? Timon drew back at the demons expression, unsure quite what to make of it at first. For some reason Vyers looked almost disturbed by his question. Why, however, was completely beyond him. As far as he was concerned it was a perfectly acceptable inquiry.

“It was a just a thought, yeesh! Now quit makin’ that face, your scaring the voters. Maybe it would have been better if you hadn’t come along…” The meerkat sighed and smiled nervously at those who passed. “Ah. Nothing to worry about here, folks. My assistant just has stomach cramps... Again.”

Immediately, Vyers' expression soured. "That isn't true and you know it," he muttered under his breath with a sidelong glance in Timon's direction. He supposed he didn't much mind the "assistant" title, though. While not exactly what he wanted, it was better than what he usually got.

"Perhaps you should allow me to speak for awhile. My skills in speechmaking are unparalleled if I do say so myself," he suggested. And then, with the slightest hint of a sly smile on his face, he added, "After the wonderful performance you had before, it could not hurt, could it?"

“Well at this point who knows?” He mumbled back irritably, though proceeded to share a smile with citizens and wave as they walked by. “It sure comes up enough to be a real problem. Maybe I outta mention somethin’ about it to Urd.”

At the demons suggestion Timon was left with no choice but to turn and look at him again. “Now that’s an even worse idea! The last thing I need is for you to say something dumb and sway everyone’s vote to those other mooks. What would you have to say, anyway? And don’t say ‘you’ll have to wait and find out’. That’s not gonna change my mind on the matter.”

Vyers crossed his arms with an indignant huff. "The reasons why you are the perfect choice for the job in a way that will easily capture the attention of all those who can hear. If I speak of what you have done for the city, that will surely bring others to your side, will it not? You have done the same yourself so far, but you lack the same flair for words that I have."

He leaned in a little closer, keeping his voice low. "Need I remind you that I am also more experienced in matters such as these?" It wasn't exactly the same situation, no, and he had never had to be voted for, but speeches he could do.
