In his civilian clothes for once Virgil pushed open the door to the cafe he'd heard about. A lot of the people of Paixao gave him strange vibes, like they weren't all there or something, so looking for a job had been rather difficult since he didn't really feel comfortable with the natives. This place looked different from most of the shops and restaurants though and if he remembered correctly it had been opened recently by a new arrival.

He looked around a little bit, it was a pretty nice place...then again most establishments beat working at Burger Fool. Virgil crossed over to the counter, intending to greet the owner (and maybe talk him into giving him a job, Virgil figured working at a place like this would at least put him in a spot to keep his ear out for things happening around Paixao), "Hey, how's business going?"

Hanekoma looked up as the young man entered, smiling at the youthful, almost electric vibe he gave off. Although he looked like he could have stepped out of Hanekoma's own dimension, there was definitely more to this young man than he at first appeared.

Leaning on the counter he gave an amiable shrug and said, "Well, business is always good as long as there are people to drink my brews, but it seems the people here have a bit more appreciation for my coffee, which is always good. How about you boss?"

"Oh, I'm fine, still trying to get used to this place is all," he replied, giving a short laugh at the end. He'd been through a lot as a superhero but dimensional travel was a new one for him. "Name's Virgil by the way, Virgil Hawkins. So, what made you wanna open up a coffee shop of all things," Virgil asked after dropping his name. He'd get to 'business' in a minute, first he wanted to lay down some casual conversation and maybe learn a little more about this guy.

"Good to meet you Virgil," Hanekoma said, holding out his hand to the boy. "Well, I've always had a love for beans, and this was really the natural progression of that passion. It's my little way of sharing my love with the world, and giving them a chance to get to know me better and letting me get to know them better," Hanekoma mused, clearly pleased that Virgil willing to ask about another person's life story.

Virgil accepted the hand, he recalled Pops telling him how important a good handshake was when meeting someone. Virgil followed his father's advice and then took his hand back, "That's cool. Wait...so you're saying you can learn things from people by way of beans, er, coffee?" That seemed a little strange, not that Virgil was one to talk.

Hanekoma shook back and nodded at Virgil's question. "You can learn something about someone from just about everything they do, but particularly the kind of coffee they drink. What flavors they like, how adventurous they are, how expensive their tastes are. You just have to pay close attention."

"Wow, never thought about that," Virgil replied, obviously impressed. He also realized that meant this guy was pretty observant, something Virgil would have to be careful of, what with the whole super hero thing. "So, I was actually kinda wondering...are you gonna need any help running this place," Virgil asked.

Hanekoma saluted Virgil with some coffee that hadn't been there a moment ago, and then said, "That's the beauty of meeting new people, we learn how to see the world in different ways."

Hanekoma paused at Virgil's question, and he turned to contemplate the boy with a gaze that seemed to see right through him to his very soul, even if Hanekoma's grin never slipped. It was as if he was judging who Virgil was now, who he had been, and who he would become.

Whatever he saw in the teenager, he clearly approved because he nodded and said, "You know, I've have more customers in a day here than I had in a week back home. I think I just might need some more help around here. You wouldn't happen to be looking for a job, would you?"

Virgil shifted slightly when the owner gazed at him, it was sort of uncomfortable...like he could see right through him. Perhaps a better word was into him. All his secrets and everything, he felt exposed and it made him uncomfortable, like when he was without his mask and in costume.

The boy blinked, realizing the man was talking again and he had zoned out or something. "Wow, that busy, huh?" He rubbed the back of his neck, "Yeah, kind of, it's not like I'll be going to school in another dimension but I can't just be sitting around all day here."

Laughing Hanekoma said, "Wise words, especially from someone your age. Too many people are content to just lay about and waste the day, but there's so much to do!"

Turning he said, "Come on boss, I'll show you the place."

"If I did that I could feel Pops frowning for here," Virgil replied smiling slightly, "He probably already wouldn't be very happy that I'm giving up school for the moment. Luckily it was nearly summer break back home so I guess that can be my excuse for awhile." He hoped his dad wouldn't be too disappointed and would understand when Virgil got back home what had happened.

Virgil blinked, "Really? Thanks!"

"He sounds like a smart man, though given we don't seem to have a school system around here, I'm sure he'd forgive you," Hanekoma mused with a grin. "Assuming, of course, he bought the whole inter-dimensional travel thing."

"It'd be my pleasure," Hanekoma said, leading Virgil around the counter to show where everything was, and how it worked.

Virgil laughed sheepishly, "Well, there's weird things that happens back home...so he might." Then again, even THIS was a little far fetched in Virgil's book.

He followed Hanekoma behind the counter, a little nervous about just asking some stranger for a job like this but at the same time he knew it would be good on a variety of levels. He'd never worked at a coffee place before so he wasn't sure how good he'd be at brewing the stuff...but at least he could bus tables...if nothing else.
