Carefully slipping into the line of people, Leslie looked back to where she had landed with complete awe.  She and her dog, P.T. (hers and Jesse’s dog, really), had gone to Terabithia without Jesse that morning.  He hadn’t been home, but something in her dragged her back to the creek and the old rope.  Everything from here was routine--she swung across, checked over the kingdom, made sure the Dark Master hadn’t made any threatening moves over night--and she and P.T. ran through the forest with absolutely no confrontation.  Even the mud clinging to her shoes and the clouds of moisture forming overhead couldn’t hinder the queen and her trusty troll-tracking dog.

It was when she was returning that the strange affairs had started.  The water of the creek was high this time of year, especially with the amount of rain they had been receiving.  The incoming storm meant that they probably wouldn’t be able to visit Terabithia again until winter was over and the water flow was back to normal.  Leslie bent down to scoop P.T. into her arms, and pull the rope toward them.  She jumped up onto the rope and they began the swing across, but as their weight fell on it the rope snapped.  P.T. had jumped away to shore, and in her panic as she fell she watched him barking.

Leslie had blinked, and the world had changed.  One moment she was splashing into the rushing water of the creek, the next she had landed hard on her back on a very busy pathway.  P.T. was no where in sight, and there was no sign of the rope or the forest except for the leaves and mud on her clothes and an aching, slightly bleeding bump on the side of her head where she must have hit it on...something.  Instead, there was a crowd of people lined up at what looked like a giant gate, and Leslie now stood in line with the rest of them.  No one spoke or touched, but they all seemed to know what they were doing so she followed as she admired the gates above.  Even from out here, she could see the ceilings of the domes, the artwork that seemed to move across them as the sky...

Jesse would love to see this.
