Only a couple of days had passed since Sin's defeat on the west side of town, enough that the shock of it all had worn off a little. Shortly after the battle, in his search of the area, he'd found not one, but three exhausted Djinni lying around. Even now, they were still recovering, and in a different sense, so was he.

But the need to find them now was more urgent than ever. He'd even suspected, way back when he and Karst found the first one at the fairgrounds, that they might have fallen into wicked hands. And of course, he'd been right.

Worse yet, though, the feeling still hadn't gone away.

Was it his sixth sense again, or just paranoia? He couldn't afford to assume that. After all, he'd ignored his instincts once, and there were the consequences, written all over the ruins of the western district. Ivan wasn't going to make that mistake again. He'd search until he passed out from exhaustion if that was what it took to get them all back.

Joutenheim was the gate where he'd first arrived - gods, was it that long ago already? - so it seemed as good a place as any to start. Oddly, it didn't seem to take as long as usual to get where he was going, although maybe that was just the determination talking.

Though he'd seen Matinal's on the city map before, this was actually his first time to visit it, and he was mildly surprised to find a greengrocers' inside. That, of course, was before he noticed the chase going on beneath the tables. At first he thought it was only some unruly children, but a second later they passed through an aisle where he could see, and -

Djinni.

Ivan didn't stop to think, or even to notice who was pursuing it. In the next heartbeat he'd joined in the chase, trying to get ahead of the little creature so he could cut off its escape route. He wouldn't - couldn't - let it get away. That was all that mattered.
