Pride and Pain [Active]

It took her a long time, much longer than it should have, to arrive.
First, she had to figure out how to read the map display in her journal. It was not an easy task for someone wasn't accustomed to such things. The journal was still mostly a mystery to her, and she was not familiar with maps in general. This place which she was directed to, the Actua Are Hotel, did not seem far away at all...
And so she set out, with a strip torn from her robes wrapped around her leg. It did not take long for the blood to seep through -- and, by the time she had gone twenty feet, it was oozing through. She did her best to ignore it as she took one decisive step after the next.
Golden Sparrow had lived against amazing odds, and she had survived, a homeless orphan, afterwards. Her childhood had hardened her, so that when the time came and it was time to push herself to her limits, she did so without complaint.
She was a proud warrior -- and very, very foolish. Anyone with any sense would have simply sat down and asked for help, rather than insisting she come to the healer. But Golden Sparrow would not allow herself the indignity of demanding help -- she would go to Rinoa, and not the other way around.
And so it was that the Orphan Warrior began at a steady, careful pace -- and quickly devolved into a stiff sort of stumble. A few times, she stopped to rest; the wound had stopped its bleeding, for the most part, but Golden Sparrow didn't irritate it in an attempt to see how it was doing. It also stiffened worse when she sat -- and so, she much preferred to stumble along than to sit.
Eventually, however, she did make it. Several hours had gone by, and Golden Sparrow had lost complete track of time. She breathed a shuddering sigh of relief, straightened her shoulders and lifted her chin, and she stepped into the lobby.
By this time, even she had admitted that this had been a very bad idea...
