Obito blinked a few times and yawned loudly, stretching his arms. He must have dozed off again. He wondered if he was late for anything. Rolling his shoulders, Obito pushed himself up into a sitting position and looked around him. It was then that something struck him as odd. Since when did Konoha border an ocean?
Maybe he was dreaming. Like when you dream that you wake up and then you dream that you wake up from that and then you dream that you wake up from that... Those dreams could go on for a long time...
He picked himself up and stood on the grass, turning a 360 to take in his surroundings a bit better. It was pretty nice, really. Ocean, sun, grass, and a huge, giant building made of domes. Okay, that last part was a bit odd, but dreams are weird, right? Right.
On closer examination, Obito noticed a line of people trailing through the grass up to a large gate with two freakin’ sweet statues fighting each other around an over it. It appeared to lead into the dome-things. Obito considered for a moment, and then flipped his goggles down over his face and wandered over to the line. He’d heard that dreams actually only lasted for about three minutes, out in the real world, so it wasn’t like a dream could make him late, really, it’s all the sleeping around it that takes up a lot of time...
He cued up at the end of the line and tugged the sleeve of the man ahead of him. ‘Ne, ojichan, is this a dream?’ he asked.
The man glanced down at him blankly. ‘No,’ he said after a pause. ‘This is Paixao.’
‘Oh,’ Obito said with a small shrug. ‘Okay.’ That didn’t necessarily mean this wasn’t a dream, this might just not be a very helpful dream-person.
The line moved surprisingly fast and Obito soon found himself looking over the counter of a booth with a blond lady smiling back at him politely. ‘Welcome to Paixao!’ she said in a friendly tone. ‘Your name?’
‘Uchiha Obito!’ he answered proudly, thumping his chest and grinning. ‘How did I get here?’
She smiled back at him and gestured to a man standing to her right with a box of stuff. ‘We have pamphlets to explain things to you. Have a good day.’
‘Okay, thanks!’ Obito waved and gave her a grin, and then gave one to the man who handed him a bunch of papers and things as well. ‘Thanks!’
Once inside the domes, he was impressed. He didn’t know he had this much imagination... He looked around as he walked, stumbled on a loose cobble, recovered, and continued strolling. In among the pamphlets, something had a distinctly different texture and weight, and it caught Obito’s attention. He found it to be a slick, burnt-orange, plastic box, that seemed to be hinged to open on one side.
‘OH COOL!’ he exclaimed after he opened it and a little screen lit up inside. Kakashi would have said that he’d been reading too many SiFi comics, but Obito was delighted with the tiny monitor and keyboard. If this was a dream, it was probably more interesting than whatever mission he was supposed to be on today, but it certainly seemed to have a lot more continuity than most of his dreams...
