For a second, Rikku wondered why she was getting this feeling of déjà vu. She was perched on top of a fancy faux-ice-looking gate, higher than most people tended to look, watching a line of said people file neatly inside the domey thing the gate led into. She'd already discreetly peeked inside to see what they were all waiting for, and found nothing special, really - just a big city.
Hence the déjà vu. It was kind of like what had happened when her home had gone kablooie, only then she'd wound up in Traverse Town instead of this place. Maybe that meant their new stomping grounds in Hollow Bastion had gone kablooie, too... so not cool.
But! Just like last time, she'd gotten away just fine, and by that reasoning, Yuna and Paine must have escaped, too. That meant Order Of Business #1 was to get in there and get the Gullwings back together! There was just one teensy little thing Rikku wanted to take care of first, though. See, the gatekeeper was giving out some free stuff to everybody who came by, and it wouldn't be fair for them all to get free stuff while she didn't.
Leaving her perch on top of the gate, she zipped down into the gatekeeper's booth behind him. Sure enough, there was a whole pile of the little boxes here. Jackpot! Too bad she couldn't carry them all, though. (It would only occur to her later that she might have had trouble fencing something that anyone could get for free anyway.)
Unfortunately, the gatekeeper happened to turn to get another one at that moment, catching her red-handed. "Hey, what're you doing? Wait in queue like everyone else!" he exclaimed, swatting at her.
"Yipe!" Rikku easily darted away from the blow, then huffed indignantly. "Hey, what's the big idea? You were gonna give me one anyway, right?"
The gatekeeper just swatted at her again, so she zipped back and planted a firm kick on his nose. The few seconds he spent recoiling from that were enough for Rikku to grab a journal of her own and jet. "Later, gators!" she called back as she whizzed through the gate. Rikku: 1, new world: 0!
