Ahnassi gaped at the huge gates before her. It wasn't so much the sheer size and impressiveness of the city before her that caused her response. She lived not far from Vivec, which was also an extremely large city, and she'd heard of even greater achievements in other provinces. No, her shock was more from the fact that she had no idea how she'd gotten there... She hadn't remembered seeing the familiar sparkles of magic before she'd suddenly arrived her, but she wasn't entirely sure she would have noticed in the first place if she'd been magicked away in a sneaky enough fashion. She wondered vaguely if she'd actually passed out at some point and just didn't recall it. Perhaps she shouldn't have picked the sujamma over the flin in the tavern. She'd have to remember not to do that in the future, if this was what it did to her...
The Khajiit took a few tentative steps towards the gate, trying not to sway from the liquor still in her system. It was bad enough she was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be without being all tipsy as well. There was a bit of a line waiting to get through into the city, and she simply joined it. Some people stared at her and a few pulled away in what she could only assume was either fear or revulsion. She was content to ignore them at the moment, since she was used to some people being like that with her. As she waited for her turn into the city, she wondered to herself if she'd somehow been drugged and kidnapped... Had that Daren Adryn somehow been responsible for what had happend to her? She thought he was going to hurt her if she didn't do what he said... not just whisk her away and drop her off somewhere out of the province. His kind didn't go to all that trouble. They usually just killed the people they didn't like.
There seemed to be some kind of problem on the other side of those gates, too... At the moment, there was water pouring down just inside the place, as if there was some sort of rainfall... Ahnassi didn't know how that could be, since it seemed to be indoors. Were they having some sort of trouble with a wizard or something? Or maybe this was Sheogorath's realm of Oblivion? She wouldn't put it past the mad god to make it rain inside and dry outside... That thought made her shiver a little. It was said that those who went into the lunatic realm of Sheogorath quickly lost their sanity as well.
She finally came to the front of the line and found there a blonde human with striking blue eyes. He looked a little like a Nord, except that he wasn't really that muscular. He stared at her curiously for a moment, making Ahnassi feel a little self-conscious. She wondered if there was something wrong with her appearance, quickly looking down at her robes to make sure she hadn't fallen in the dirt or something in the unknown amount of time that it had taken to get her from her home to this place. They looked okay, though, so she wasn't sure what to make of the man's stare.
A moment later he looked back down at the list he had in front of him, asking her for her name. That was easy to give, at least. "Ahnassi," she said simply, then hesitantly added, "What place is this?"
"This is the city of Paixao," the gatekeeper informed her, taking a small object off of a stack of similar objects that was sitting on his table. This he handed to Ahnassi, who took it with surprise. She hadn't expected to get anything from standing in line!
"What is this?" she asked, looking at the little box. It was blue... an almost unnatural shade of blue. Ahnassi thought it was a very pretty color and wondered how expensive the dye was. She didn't recognize the material the box was made of, either, but it had a clever little hinge on it and she was fascinated by all the little buttons on it. "This is for Ahnassi to keep?
"That's a journal," she was told. "And yeah, it's for you. It has a multitude of features, including citywide messaging, public notices, and a map of Paixao. You can read the pamphlets or figure it out for yourself."
The man waved her on, and she continued walking, entranced by the little device she had been given. It was a marvelous, magical little box that had a bright little magic square on it that displayed all sorts of wonderful things! She poked around at the buttons, grinning wide as she figured out some of the things it was supposed to do. The map even had a magic dot that said where you were! It was the most fabulous little magic box she had ever seen, and she was amazed that someone would just ~give~ it to her. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing that she'd been taken to this city, if it held such wonders...
If only the nasty indoor rain would stop, because it was getting her robes and fur and feet all wet...
