He was so close…all this time that he'd been searching for it, and he'd finally found it! Even the mere sight of the treasure chest in front of him excited him, urged him on to open it.

He knelt down in front of the chest, his arms shaking with excitement and anxiety as he slowly opened it. The Magicite within, riddled with various cracks due to the stress of age, glowed with a dull red color. "At last you're mine," he whispered to the stone as if it were alive - and it might very well have been, considering that it had once been a living, breathing Esper. "You will be the thing that brings Rachel back to life!" The treasure hunter reached out his hand to grab the Magicite, and wrapped his fingers around the stone, enjoying the feel of the warmth it gave off.

Things went awry just then. Out of nowhere a bright light flashed once, then twice, then three times, leaving Locke blinded for a moment. He threw up his arm to shield his eyes, though he needn't have done so as the light had finally stopped. Once his vision came back, he had to do a double-take at his surroundings.

This wasn't the Phoenix's cave anymore.

He looked down and saw the Magicite sitting in the palm of his hand; by now its glow had died down, and the warmth had gone from it. That certainly didn't give him a good feeling - if the Magicite's power were to fade now then there'd be nothing left to help revive Rachel. Swallowing back the lump that formed in his throat at the fleeting thought of not being able to help her, he stood up and followed the line of people that seemed to have formed in front of the strange gate that stood ahead of him.

There wasn't much else he could do at the moment anyways. Not until he could figure out where he was, and the best way to figure that out would be to actually get inside and ask around. He tucked the Magicite away into the pouch hanging from his belt - even if it was 'dead', he certainly wasn't about to let it out of his grasp. Not after what he'd had to go through to get it.

"Name please?" came the voice of the gatekeeper.

"Er, Locke," he said. Then, wondering if he'd be able to get some information out of this guy, he then asked, "Could you tell me where I am right now?"

"You've found yourself in the city of Paixao," the gatekeeper replied. He was silent for a moment before handing one of the electronic journals to Locke. "There you go, all set, now move on please."

"But --"

It didn't seem like he'd get any more out of the gatekeeper at the moment, especially since the next person in line was already being attended to. He stepped through the impressive gate, becoming even more curious now as to where he'd been placed. In all the different bits of info he'd heard from various sources, not once had he heard any mention of a 'Paixao' of any kind.

Well then, the first thing to do here would be to collect info that would help him...even if the gatekeeper wasn't too helpful, there had to be someone around here who could explain things. There always was, especially in places this big...
