Marona couldn't remember exactly when she'd fallen asleep, having stayed up into the night feeling sad about what had happened that day. Groggily rising from her bed, she wandered downstairs looking around. Morning rays poured in through the windows. Thoughts of the day before passed her mind, but she quickly shoved them aside. That was yesterday, this was a whole new day! A better day! Something ... seemed off though. It took her only a moment to realize Ash wasn't around. That was kind of odd.
"Ash?" she called though the small house, "Ash? Where are you?"
She waited, and waited ... no Ash.
"... Ash? Is something wrong? Please! Answer me!" Marona called, getting really rather worried. He always came! Could he be outside?
She pulled on her shoes and started to search her small island. No Ash. He wasn't anywhere she could see! Was he avoiding her? Maybe she should just give him some time. Deciding that must be the case, Marona went through her morning routines, but soon noon came, and there was still no sign of her guardian. This really wasn't like him at all!
She started to talk to the other few phantoms around the island, but none of them had seen Ash, but for one who thought they had seen him on the roof during the night.
The longer she waited, the more and more worried and panicked she grew. He wouldn't go this long without seeing her!
She called and begged, but he did not appear.
After a day of searching and waiting for Ash, she found herself sitting on the beach, tears now streaming down her cheeks. Had Ash left? He couldn't have! Could he? Why would he? Was it because of yesterday? She just couldn't figure it out, it made no sense! She'd never felt so lonely as she did now. Ash was all she had left! Why didn't he come?
Closing her eyes, she buried her face into her propped up arms.
~~~~~~
Since when did her bed feel this hard, and cold? And ... what was tickling her nose. Wait ... when did she even fall asleep?!
Blinking her eyes open she was met by a grey sky. She sat up startled and was surprised to find herself outside! She had been sleeping on patch of damp grass! She jumped to her feet, and looked around. The familiar sound of the ocean was in the distance, but this didn't look like any place she'd seen in Ivoire at all! Was she dreaming? It was COLD. Too cold to be a dream, that was for sure! This couldn't be Ivoire, could it? It was still warm on her island!
Rubbing her arms she looked around. There was a huge domed structure not far from where she'd awoken. Well, maybe it would be warmer in there.
In a bit of a daze, she wandered towards it. She paused, staring up at the large gate. Wow. This place was huge! Did it cover most of the island? There was a single person at the entrance, and she made her way over to them.
"Um, hello?" she asked hesitantly, "Please, where am I? Is this still Ivoire?"
The man at the doorway peered down at her, and held out a smooth rectangular shaped object to her. "Ivoire? Nope. This is Paixao. Welcome! Your name?"
"Paixao?" Marona echoed, "But, sir, where is that? Oh um, Marona."
"If you have questions please read the brochures," he said, brushing her off.
"Uh ... okay. Thank you ..." she replied, even more so in a daze, but accepted the strange object, half-heartedly glancing at it, before slipping it into a pocket in her blue under-dress. This was weird. Really, really weird. 'Maybe I am really dreaming!' she thought to herself. She ignored the brochure rack as she stepped into the city.
"Whoa!" she was shocked. This was amazing. She'd never seen a place like this, but her wonder soon slipped away, as she found herself rubbing her bare arms again. It was just as cold in here, as out there!
Slowly she began to walk around, and attempted to talk to the townsfolk, to find out how to leave. How to get to Ivoire. Nothing. They all just shook their heads at her, and said they couldn't help.
It began to set in just how bad a situation she had found herself in. She was back to feeling like this definetly wasn't a dream.
'Okay .. think Marona! Ash disappeared and I somehow found myself here without trying to get here too. Could this have happened to Ash?' she reasoned.
A new theory in mind, and brightened a bit by that possibility, she tried a new tactic. She couldn't just ask around ... he was a phantom! They wouldn't have seen him, unless he showed himself to them, but that was very unlikely. So she had only one option.
"Ash?" she hesitantly called about, "Ash!".
She wandered down the street calling out his name, but quickly this seemed like a hopeless venture. The street was long and the city seemed endless to the young chartreuse-colour haired girl.
"ASH!" she tried one last, desperate time, but was greeted only with strange looks and annoyed glares. Pinching her lips closed, she felt tears well up in her eyes. No Ash. What was she going to do?
Slumping down against the nearest wall, she sat with her knees drawn up and wrapped her arms around each other. Was it getting colder?
In such devastating and frightening situation, what would any child do? Letting out a sob, she buried her face in her arms and cried.
