Ansem materialised with his burdens just north of the dome barrier that covered the Muspelheim gate. If he had been walking, he would have been limping, but he was not, instead hovering several feet above the ground. His borrowed feet were in no shape for walking right now, even had he wanted to. His mortal body had taken quite a beating from that Keyblade fragment and Number Four.
He was breathing hard with the effort it had taken to get them away from the enemy in time. Perhaps he should have left the youth behind, but Ansem had taken a shine to him. The pitiful lost quality of his darkness was very appealing and had great potential. Ansem wanted to see just what he might do with it. And it was never a bad idea to have another heart to feed on apart from that of his host.
As he began to lead the way toward the beckoning ruins scattered among the surrounding trees, the sun appeared over the lightening horizon, and Ansem found himself at such low power he could no longer maintain his spell of telekinesis. Falling to his feet, he stumbled and clenched his jaw on a cry of pain. His pet’s heart was so perfect, why could his body not be stronger, that of a grown man? It enraged him all over again to think that children and non-beings had brought him so low.
Ansem turned his head from the half-crouch of pain in which he stood to address his Guardian. “You will carry me,” he ordered, “down this path.” He pointed at the remains of an ancient road, crumbling and overgrown by weeds and small shrubs that wound through the ruins ahead. “Until I tell you to stop.”
Then he turned to address his newest acquisition. “And you will follow,” he murmured, stroking a possessive hand over the soft cheek and jaw covered in translucent stubble, taking a moment to admire the vacant blue eyes.
They just needed to get far enough from that damned Light within the city for him to rest and recover. Then he could dig in, fortify his defenses and wait for his enemies to come to him, as they surely would.
