Setting: Vanaheim, F3
Time: Week2, late dawn.
Warnings: angst none.

A forest is not that different to a city. There are beasts in either places, with visible and invisible claws. Subaru does not fear this forest much more than he fears Tokyo, and he finds the latter rather pleasant, actually. In Tokyo, however, there is no beast that can kill him, safe one that is considered his equal. Subaru does not know what may lurk in this strange forest.

Narrowing his eyes in slight annoyance, he exhales the smoke from his mouth, watching the grey trail snaking upwards from his cigarette. Subaru is more scared of running out of cigarettes than he is of getting killed by beasts. That does not mean he wants to die though, most people like to assume that way. On the other hand, perhaps he cannot blame them. His lifestyle, sleeping when he finally faints from lethargy and eating only when smoking cannot keep his mind off of hunger, supports those people's speculations.

But no, Subaru does not want to die. Not yet, anyway. He can almost hear Hokuto commenting on how cliched those words are from behind him, but he does not turn because she will not be there. Instead, he drops his cigarette to the ground and snubs it out with his heel before walking towards a strange gate he saw through the trees.

A woman with blonde hair and blue eyes seem to be looking through him instead of at him. The corners of her lips twitch a little as if attempting a smile, "Name?" she asks. Names hold power, Subaru knows, but the woman seems harmless enough. He does not think she is in the same 'industry' as he is anyway.

"Subaru," he mutters just above a whisper, "Sumeragi Subaru." The woman gives him a nod and proceeds to write his name down, not glacing at him twice. After writing down his name, the woman shows him two square metal objects, one white and the other black, while twitching her lips again. Subaru waits for an explanation.

"These are journals," she starts. "You can use them for whatever, which one do you want?" Subaru looks at the two objects and ponders for a moment, before reaching out slowly and taking the black one from her hand. She twitches her lips again, "welcome to Paixao."

Subaru leaves the gate without so much as a nod to the woman. In the past, he would have thanked her with lots of bows and smiles. In the past, he would have given her a wide smile while waving goodbye to her. Yet that is all in the past, and this is the present. Pulling out a cigarette from his breast pocket, Subaru lights it and takes a slow drag almost mechanically.

A whole city covered by domes is an interesting concept, even though Subaru still prefers his Tokyo by far. Not that he loves Tokyo, really, it is more of a love-hate relationship nowadays. He exhales slowly, watching the shapeless smoke roll around before rising up and disappearing. Subaru notices that one side of the city is growing brighter, as if mimicking a sunrise. A simulated sun, as if the actual sun has turned so bad they don't want it anymore. He wonders if he really wants to go to Tokyo and fulfill the prophecy to stop the apocalypse, it isn't as if he cares.

"Good morning, neesan," Subaru mutters as the first glimpse of sun is seen from between the buildings. Subaru can hear Hokuto greeting him in a similar way and then rambling about how he should wear that cute hat she bought him a week ago, it compliments his eyes so much. He turns his attention away from her, knowing that he will hear Seishiro next, commenting on how he really wants to see Subaru wearing the hat. He inhales, the warmth filling his lungs and body, before the heat starts subsiding. Subaru exhales before his chest turns cold.
