Setting: near Vanaheim
Time: late Monday

Seifer was a little annoyed. He had managed to wake up early enough to 'escape' Selphie and Chii, but since the robotic girl had been wearing his trenchcoat he hadn't managed to get it back. And so the man was now trudging coatlessly around the city, glaring a little at overly happy passers-by and cheery little kids running around playing games.

And that was when he spotted someone that looked a little too familiar to simply cast a disdainful glance at and pass by. Seifer frowned in disbelief as he caught sight of the golden hair in that oh-so-telltale style, and... was that a pair of glasses? But there was no way Quistis could be here, right? How would she have...? But then again, Seifer's coming here hadn't exactly been explainable or by choice either.

Changing his course and making a beeline for the area where he had seen that Quistis-lookalike, Seifer forced his way aggressively through the crowds until he caught the woman in his sights again. And there was no longer any doubt in his mind that this was her- although she was turned away, her movements were too prim, upright, and crisp. This was definitely Quistis.

"Instructor Trepe?" Seifer questioned aloud in disbelief from behind the woman, still frowning with a suspicious confusion. He had no idea what was going on, but the appearance of his Instructor was quite an odd thing- he hadn't considered it before, but it suddenly occurred to him that it was quite possible that this was another part of the SeeD exam. What else would it be, after all? And why else would she be here with him, of all people?

"What the hell are you doing here?" the blond decided to ask anyway, as the woman turned around. This was just too weird.

--

That voice.

It couldn't be, but it had to be, because no one who knew her as "Instructor Trepe" had ever spoken to her with that kind of arrogance -- except for him.

She turned around and there he was, in all his green-eyed glory.

Eyes slightly narrowed, Quistis took a step toward him, declaring absently, "Seifer... you're... here."

She pressed a hand to the side of her face and looked to the ground, eyes wide with confusion.

"It's not just me... there are others coming, too...," she murmured to herself. Suddenly, she raised her eyes to meet Seifer's and asked gravely, "Is Squall here, too?"

--

As Quistis raised her gaze to meet Seifer's, the man raised a skeptical eyebrow back at her. She was obviously pretty disoriented, and although Seifer had little to no idea where they were, exactly, and even less of an idea of how to get back... he at least had that on her. And it did kind of amuse him that she seemed obviously so lost... her, who was supposed to be his instructor and superior. Well, at least now he knew this had nothing to do with his exam.

"Squall?" Seifer repeated after the woman's question, giving her a disdainful frown. "What do you care about him for? I'm not good enough for you?" the man asked sarcastically, his signature smirk taking over his face. He scoffed a bit, and then shrugged as he added, "Nah, he's not here. Met some brown-haired little brat from Trabia yesterday, but there's nobody else here from any place I even recognize."

Seifer gave Quistis only a short moment to register this before giving her a skeptical look and asking, "So, instructor... care to fill me in? What is this, some part of the exam or something? I thought I passed that thing already, I didn't know there was another half left..."

--

Quistis almost laughed -- because really, given his conduct, even Seifer had to know there was no way she could possibly pass him. "Willful disobedience," she'd written, and solemnly placed his report on the stack to be sent directly to students, rather than to SeeD officials for final approval.

She squared her shoulders and crossed her arms over her chest,

"No, Seifer, this isn't a part of your SeeD exam at all. Frankly, I don't know what this is. Or where. How long have you been here? And... and..." she said, suddenly squinting at him. She blinked a few times.

"What happened to your trench coat?" she said. She couldn't recall ever seeing him without it and this... this was very different. He almost looked less imposing.

Almost.

--

Seifer chuckled silently to himself a bit as Quistis began speaking, a little amused that she took his question so seriously. But then, the blonde had always taken everything so seriously- it wasn't really a surprise to Seifer.

The final question wasn't really one he felt like answering, however. "I'm not wearing it," the man decided to answer snidely, obnoxiously, his mocking expression giving away that he fully knew what Quistis was really trying to ask... and simply reponded the way he did out of pure spite. Quistis had always been so easy to frustrate.

And rather than answering her other question about how long he'd been here, Seifer decided to continue on the mocking, sarcastic track he was already on. After all, he was on a roll- no reason to stop now, right?

"So you're as clueless as I am?" Seifer asked, the smirk never having left his face. He leaned in ever so slightly, everything about tone and expression mockingly polite as he way-too-innocently stated, "And here I thought that the great Instructor Trepe knew everything there was to know. Am I going to have to tell your little fanclub about this?"

--

Quistis had a hard time believing that even in such a ridiculous situation, Seifer insisted on being as difficult to work with as ever. Did he ever let up? Ever? Because if he did, Quistis thought that now, when they were stuck in a place they might very well die in, would be an extremely opportune time.

"Seifer," she started, affecting the Very Concerned Instructor Tone she had picked up early in her teaching career quite without noticing, "this isn't an exam. This isn't Balamb Garden, and you're not Head of the Disciplinary Committee to terrorize everyone beneath you. We might never get out of here. Doesn't that mean anything to you?"
